I think it's something in the sumac family although the flower looks different so far
...but a golden rain tree leaf looks like this if you can take a closer look

I agree with Jvelo, it looks like a sumac type leaf. Sumacs tend to have great fall color, but who knows what will happen this year with the lack of rain.

Another vote here for Golden Rain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata). Those clusters of yellow flowers will turn into orangish papery capsules or mini "laterns" in the fall.

This tree is low maintenance and does well in drought, heat, and poor soil. Howeer, it is considered to be an "invasive".

I'm thinking it is Sumac. The leaves aren't right for GRT.
If it's invasive it hasn't shown it in my nieghbor's yard. Of course he doesn't have any back yard 2 big dogs and never waters!!
Now the neighbor across the street has the red color Sumac and it comes up everywhere!
Thanks everyone

Toots -- I hate to accuse Indiana Public Media of not fact checking, but the photo they're showing on their site as a Golden Rain tree is actually a photo of a Golden Chain Tree (Laburnum xwatereri).

Sorie -- Here's a good site for pics of the Golden Rain Tree to compare with yours:

On closer examination, I think Toots in right on with her Tree of Heaven I.D. Look at the foliage shape and blossom appearance.

Sumac matches the foliage but not the blossoms in the OP's photo and tends to be more of a "trash" tree found in ditches and the wild versus in a cultivated landscape.

The Tree of Heaven must be a hardy tree, they are growing all over the place around here, they are beautiful in bloom.

Tree of Heaven is very hardy and very invasive. They need to be removed where ever they grow.

Invasive trash tree for sure. Our woods on the east side is full of them. Kimm, you are welcome to come with your boots and chain saw and start felling! We would honestly appreciate it.
