| :>( Ahhh heartbreaking for sure! As much as I complain about our big old cottonwood tree that was in our year when the house was built~~~I would miss it dearly! (not in the Fall when the huge leaves fall!) but it is home to the squirrels & woodpeckers. I would miss the shade it provides in the summer but more sun can mean more sunny gardens! Try to look at the bright side. Think that wood is very valuable. I have a friend who used part of an old oak from their property for woodwork in their new home.

| Awwe, that's a huge branch, luckily it missed your house. We have many live oaks that are over 100 years old on the property. I can see some have been struck by lightening in the past, lost huge branches and have even been uprooted by hurricanes. They all survived and repaired themselves, albeit are sort of funny looking, especially the one that fell over way in the back of the property in 2004...it's still growing, didn't have the heart to cut it up.

That was my exact thought...I see a chimney...that's FREE firewood! Most of the time the trees survive like others have said. But it is messy to clean up and will look a bit ragged for a year or two but then it should fill in.
