On November 23rd, my personal opinion is that it is too early to start lighting the Christmas decorations. I saw a few people with the decorations in place and it was very pretty but I didn't expect it to be lighted yet. It was. I am so sick of rushing the holidays waaaaaay in advance. I think the lights should be lighted no earlier than Dec. 1st. It makes it so 'commercial' you forget it's a Religious Holiday. That's just my opinion and I'm sticking with it! I think its still too early also. I"m lucky if mine are even up by the 15th..and they are sure gone by the 6th of January, maybe the 2nd if they get on my nerves

Traditionally (and I don't know for how long this has been a tradition), Christmas lights go up between the day after Thanksgiving to Dec.1. I don't find putting them up commercials Christmas or detracts from the real nature of the holidays. Could be worse, like at Halloween

I think it depends on a lot of things. If you are planning a big family celebration you might start earlier. If the spirit moves you~~why not? Life is short! I like the tree up as soon as possible after Thanksgiving or not putting it up! Its just so much work & I have tons of Xmas stuff from years gone by so not going to all that work for a week or so. If your family enjoys the decorations...Why not get them in a happy frame of mind. I need it this year(!!) but still wish elves would show up & do the work! Maybe Thumbie would help me? :>) I started on my artificial tree about an hour ago! ~~Got coffee? "Those that throw mud, lose ground!" :>)

It agree they start to early but I love the holiday and even tho it is just DH and I, I always put up my big tree and put all the special ornaments I've made and ones given to us. DH even likes to help!!! Won't do it till around the middle of the month too. WE have our house on the market so will be interesting but I'M GOING TO PUT MY TREE UP!!! The people looking will have to deal with it!!

I totally agree that every season has become overly commercial. I especially dislike seeing Christmas decorations in the stores in August along with Halloween ones. Something really wrong there IMO. I can understand putting up decorations early to enjoy them but feel sad when people remove them the day after Christmas. I always leave mine up into January as it extends the good feelings of the season, especially in this wintery climate. I've started putting out a few decorations as it looked so bare after I put away my fall decor. It was stuff I bought on sale after Christmas last year and didn't store with the rest. Haven't gotten into the big closet yet with all the boxes but will start this week so most of the decorating is done by beginning of December. I want to edit my Christmas stuff this year as have more than I need and want to give it away in time for others to buy it at the thrift store.
