Is that brand new? Oh sweet! Is that rubber duckie for love bug? Refreshing! What about the bears?! Think everyone has seen my fountain over the years but can hunt down a picture.

Just finished this DIY project on Sunday. I did it all by myself! DH only helped with the big rocks for the fall. I really wanted a pond with fish, but with two little ones, a disappearing waterfall was safer. There's nothing better than admiring a landscape from your porch/patio/deck with the sound of water in the background!

Lovely fountain. Is that black mulch or lovely black dirt?

I've posted this before.
It's pretty modest, but I like it a lot. DH made it for me.

Nettie~ Very sweet! Like that!

Shook! Very impressed chickie! You must have muscles after doing that? Very nice...Just a thought here...That landscape edging put along the walk may keep your mulch inside? We had that
problem & now never put mulch right next to walk or drive. An edging of short little plants to your liking may help that too. Just lovely & will be a source of enjoyment for sure!

We'vehad ours for many years now & constant bird traffic morning to night!

wonderful job, shook.. you have the real deal there.

love your fountain, nettiejay.. and the iris too. it must have people wondering why that watering can never fills up and spills over.

your fountain and its setting is beautiful, muddy. love all the greenery around it along with rocks.

why do other peoples gardens always look so perfect to me?

nettlejay...I like the watering can.Funny that people think you left the water running.

Nice muddy...too much more growth there and it won't be visible to the birdies.

My birdies are so used to coming here that I think they count on my fountain for their water source...Look robins even sleep right there! LOL

dunno if this counts, but it's sure a favorite of the little ones..... found the tub at the side of the road on trash day... no leaks even!!... Gramps lets her and the other little ones get stones from the drive way and then plunk them down into the little pond out front... well, Granny set this up with pretty white rocks that would make a good plunk! and magnetic fishing and it's own water sprayer and the little ones head there first!!!.... now I hear that Caelie had her babysitter set her one like it up on the sitter's porch so she could play there, too!!....and it sure sounds good when I'm working in the greenhouse behind it or the barn.....!!

Toots, I'm sure that's a popular tub! I have a galvanized tin washtub I bought at a yard sale, looked brand new, that I plan to use this summer for my littlest Granddaughter to play in.

Somewhat of a wooded area. I do have 17 oak trees in my yard. Not only did I have this pileated woodpecker, there was another one up the tree!!!!

Such wonderful water features, everyone! Muddy, thanks for the advice about the edging. We are forever sweeping the mulch off of it, drives me nuts!

ETA, how do you keep the fountains algae free? I've read to add chlorine (if no fish/plants inside, of course) but how to know how much and how often?

get algaecide at a pond/aquarium store.... it lasts a long time....it works.... it's safe for fish or birds or critters ....and there's no damage to your pump from chlorine eating thru it..... fountains should be cleaned out reasonably often, too.... gunk gets into the chamber where the pump is and can slow the flow or ruin the pump.... no use trying this and that when there's a perfect thing out there... algaecide!!....

Thanks, Toots! We had a frog family last year that I'm hoping will return especially now that we have the fountain. I must confess, I built if partially for them, so I didn't want to add something that would harm any critters. Now mosquito larvae on the other hand...

The pileated woodpeckers were a red letter day. I see others regularly, but have seen the pileated only twice in nearly 14 years.

We have a pair of pileated WP that nest close by. It's always nice to see and hear them, they have such a unique call.

A few years ago the female got caught up in some Virginia Creeper growing up an oak tree and couldn't free herself, her distress calls alerted DH. He gently held her body with one hand and untangled the vines from her legs. She pecked at him a couple of times but then stopped. Her mate was nearby watching the whole thing.
