I'm stirring like crazy and now it has this really gunky looking stuff in it. Big flakes of stuff about the size of a quarter. Is this normal? It still doesn't stink. Doesn't have much smell at all.

sis... I never stir mine... the chunks are probably the alfalfa breaking down. I use the pellets so my chunks are smaller. If it isn't stinky, it's not ready. Be sure you have it in full sun. It cooks fastest when it's hot out. I can have a batch ready in 3 days here in summer! If you're still cool (below 80) it may take a bit longer...

The key to a nice-looking lawn is a good mower. I recommend one who is muscular and shirtless.

I gave some looking awful, but didn't smell it till dumped on flower. I swear the endless summer changed color overnight. from light blue to a shade of pink. Just around the edges of the blooms. I don't mind as i like the green color and the creamy white color.

I have the epsom salt in mine.
I need to make another batch.
I wonder what would happen if we had a alfalfa bale in our garden and spread that as mulch minus as many seeds as possible.
I decided to google to see if acidic or what. I found this. another mix as well going further.

i'm thisclose to throwing in the towel on my alfalfa tea, this thing has been sitting outside for 3 weeks and it still doesn't stink.

I'm tired of going out there every day, I keep moving it back and forth. if I know it's going to rain I put it under the deck, if I know it's going to be sunny, I move it back in a sunny spot.

Next year I'm definitely waiting until it gets warmer out.

Should I use it anyway, or keep waiting?

gelato, don't give up on it, eventually it will get there. We haven't had alot of warm days, this weather has been like a roller coaster ride. I've been waiting 2 weeks now, and I don't bother to move it out of the rain.Since we are going to be getting cooler temps and not warmer, it will probably be another week or two. Roll Eyes I think I may go ahead and start another bach of it so that it will be ready a month after this one.

I put a lid on mine so it wouldn't get rained in. Was I not supposed to?

NO Don't throw it away!!...That stuff is still good..I never have put a lid on mine...Jennifer is correct..it brews quicker in full sun and the heat...Go ahead and add the Epsom Salts and use..it will finish breaking down in the soil...I've never had mine take as long as yalls or NEVER stink...Jeanne

Jeanne - I called our local feed store and they sell the 50 lb. bag of alfalfa pellets for $13.50. I'm going tonight to buy them and make this dang tea once and for all, instead of thinking about it.

I put a lid on mine, but it is to keep the stink to a min....!!!!!!!!!!!! Eek It sits by my back deck close to where I need it & you sure don't want to get down wind of it!!!!!!!!!

I also have a metal barrel on blocks that I use to store my 50# bag. It has a lid/ring lock so I don't get bugs or anything else. Purchased it @ pool supply place for $7...works GREAT!

I am in North Carolina and made my Alfalfa Tea in early Spring and just about used up a 30 gallon container and my next tea is brewing.

I have my tea in the shade with a lid on it. The first batch really stinks, so I know it is really good. Mine had white chucks on the top also. I also put salts in my tea.

It really stinks in the garden when the ground is wet, it smells like a barn yard.

My roses are blooming and looking great.

I want mine to stink too Big Grin

Inthemood, are you saying that it still stinks even though you've already added it to the plants? How long ago did you put it in the garden? I thought it smelled for a day or so and that was it.
