I've been working on fixing up my memory garden after it was partially destroyed when we had to get the back yard dug up last fall. I'm finally getting things back together so thought I'd share a photo.

Thyme it's lovely! Who is it built in memory of? What is the pink plant in front? Is that a type of Caladium??? I bet it's great to have it back... I had to have my front yard dug up to replace the main line... it was awful. Things have come together again now tho. Whew!
The key to a nice-looking lawn is a good mower. I recommend one who is muscular and shirtless. |

Thyme, what do you have as a ground cover? Do you have any problems with it blowing around? I notice you have your beautiful memory garden in a corner space so that helps for it not to blow. I'm trying to decide on some ground cover and some mulch for my flower beds and Memory Garden, but I'm in the country and it is much more open, so I have to consider winds and such. Love your garden. Please share more pix

What a restful and tranquil spot! It makes me want to wander out there with a cup of coffee and just sit for hours.

To answer questions...I'll have to look again at the shrub without leaves and see what it is...I'm totally blank in the head tonight trying to remember what it is!
The pink shrub is a Heuchera...I have about 10 varieties of Heuchera in my memory garden...they come in such a beautiful array of colors, leaf formations and sizes. One plant I want to add is some trillium...they grow wild in the woods around here, so were a part of my childhood when I played in the woods daily...I noticed they have them at the local nursery now. My mulch is shredded cedar bark...pretty much the most available and cost effective mulch around here. We've never had a problem with the wind blowing it around...even though we use it on all the beds in the yard, even the ones out in the open. The memory garden is something I started after my father passed away. Time marches on, so I am now working on a plaque to memorialize both my parents, my father-in-law and my best friend of 42 years whom I lost to cancer in December. I wanted a special spot to go when I'm feeling lonely for them...they're all buried quite a way from where I live, so I can't visit their graves very often. My grandchildren are allowed free run of my yard, but I've told them they have to ask permission before entering my angel garden...keeps up the mystique of the garden and makes them step slowly and take time to really take notice of what's growing and what's changed since their last visit...things are always more interesting to and appreciated by children when they're sometimes off limits, don't you think?
