Is it too late to plant onions? I planted 5 dozen in early March, the first time I'd done onions. They are now being harvested. I'm thrilled at how easy they were to plant and grow so I'd love to do more to be ready before frost but I don't know if it's too late/too hot. Thanks ---------------------------------------------

don't think they would come to much now. you could plant onion seeds though..they will winter over, and grow in the spring. or you could just use the smaller green onions. Kosh - onions are a cool weather crop...which where I am and where you are means planting anytime in late Jan through Mar or April..whenever the ground can be worked. Right now they simply wouldn't do any good (IMHO). If you want a second crop, wait until about late August and put out some onion sets...they should mature before first frost. N'ville shouldn't be too different from here...ours is usually the last week in Oct to the first wk in Nov. ve edited to add: I meant to ask you about your okra. So how's it doing? This message has been edited. Last edited by: vera ellen,

Well I have a question if you planted in March & are harvesting now. Are you using them as green/spring onions or are you letting the bulbs grow? Mine aren't falling over yet & I planted most of them in either late Dec. or early Jan. and I won't pull them to use until the tops die off. That let's the bulbs get as large as they are going to grow...keeper onions. I forgot to add... When I lived in Ill. I planted a few every couple of weeks most of the summer to have green onions all summer long. I also planted those that were left to maturity for the bulbs for year round use. This message has been edited. It's just there at the moment, they haven't grown very much yet. I'll have to wait and see. ----- Thanks to all for the help. ---------------------------------------------
