My aunt gave my mother a rooted cluster in water in the mid80's. My Mom potted it and kept it until her death in 1994, I took it home with me because of the green leaves. Never bloomed for my Mom. I put it out on the porch about 10 years ago during the summer and was rewarded with 27 flower all at once. Every year since them it has bloomed about this time of year. Even put out a flower during the winter months inside. Maybe they have to be of a certain age before blooming?

The one thing I did different was to put it upstairs in an empty bedroom, no heat (in Michigan, no less) forgot it was up there, no water either. last week, remembered it, went up, and there was this bloom.

I think that the cool tempertures helps it set buds. I put it on the porch as soon as I know that it will be above freezing at night. I believe it is that way with the Christmas cactus too. I leave them out as late in the fall as possible and they bloom.
