Planted green beans for first time and didnt realize how big those plants get. Love to see such growth from those little seeds but wow! Had to pull a bunch out because they were choking out some other things. Staking them up. Any tips for the green beans? Had to remove their spiral tendrils from several of my tomato plants. This message has been edited. Last edited by: OC Beginner,
Did you plant pole beans? They don't sound like bush beans. Bush beans should not need staked.
Ditto what Owie said.....if you are having to remove spirals, it sounds like you planted pole beans instead of bush beans. Bush beans will make short spirals, but nothing that needs to be removed. What variety did you buy?
Green beans are an easy veggie to grow with huge rewards. Usually they are great producers, so you should have some delicious meals coming along. They don't require much, some light fertilizer, and water when there's been no rainfall. Keeping them picked will prolong production.
