I try to think of my entire garden as a worm bed! In the summer we bury the compost that is not fully decomposed in areas between plants and the worms seem to really like that "food". I was also astounded last year when I spread some fresh grass clippings as mulch several large earthworms came to the surface immediately and crawled on top of the grass clippings. I had to step back cause I'm a bit squeamish about worms! When we first started gardening here in this forest there was not one worm to be seen. As friends gave me plants and we added manure from the cattle pens the worms finally came. My DH is a recreational fisherman so he and the DS's often dig for worms. The only time they have difficulty is if it's been quite dry and I haven't watered. The worms are down deep in the clay base then. Otherwise they get a can of worms very quickly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happiness is a place between too little and too much.
