and me as we get ready to roll thru the woods and fields in TN....By the way she's the one on the left.....southern hospitality can't be beat!!!This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jan.C,
No seat belts in the back of that truck! And those chairs went slip sliding away so that we had to stand bouncing over hill and dale. It was fun. She and her husband have a lovely piece of heaven.
i was kidding... didn't think you'd really use those chairs... at least without duct taping them to the floor of the truck. her place sounds like heaven on earth and looks like it too in pictures. quite an achievement, i'd say, since none of that was there when she & family moved in.

What a great picture! Have you two crazy ladies been friends awhile or is this your first meeting? Looks like you both had a fabulous time. Thanks for giving us a glimpse!!

Oh My Gosh - Jan, I remember Joe taking that picture. It was a lot of fun. When we started going up one of the field roads Jan was hanging on for dear life dodging tree limbs and trying to look at the same time.
Yep, got those yellow boxes on! . Favorite summer time shoe - these are the everyday ones...got 3 other pair for dress up - LOL.
Karen, Jan and I have been friends for many many years. We "met" on the old GT board and started exchanging emails. Then a few years ago when I went to New Hampshire/New England, we met in person. So this is our second face to face meeting.
Definitely going to have to google those yellow boxes....gotta see what I'm missing!
I think it's great that you two have kept in touch with each other all these years! And getting to hang out with each other in person is a special bonus!! Great story!!

Okay, Jan, where in New Hampshire are you? I'm over in St. Johnsbury, VT at the moment. We took a drive over through Conway yesterday.
The gardening girls are as bad as the quilting girls. We're camped next door to a quilting board friend. Met her a couple of years ago when she came to visit her son who lived near me. We've been pals since. She's from Tennessee, near Knoxville.
What cute pictures of both of you, just doing natural things (liking hanging out in kitchen!) I love that porch swing!!! I love those types of photos. Good memories for years to come every time you look at the pics. Vera, I see Jan is wearing 'pants'. How is the weather right now where you are? I'm curious because I always heard the south is very hot and humid in summer, right? I'd love to take a road trip through a few southern states, but I haven't yet, only because I can't stand hot & humid weather for more than a day or two! Today and tomorrow it's very hot here, mid 95's, feels over 100 deg. How's the weather by you? Very Hot??? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Wavee,

Wavee - it is very hot and humid here as well. Jan wore long pants the entire time.....and in their trip pictures she wore hats and pants. She and I both have a solar allergy, which requires hats & sleeves at least. She had a hard time with our heat and it hadn't even gotten real hot yet. Joe seemed to take it in stride because he's used to working outdoors.
Toots - we almost met once before when a bunch of the GT girls all met up. I remember the pictures from that get to gether. I was still working and couldn't do the weekend trip. One of these days indeed...I'll be ready!
GaKaren - ok, thanks for the warning . Don't guess you'll need any southern cooking lessons though will ya!
Glad you girls are enjoying the pictures. We all enjoyed the visit.
VE, I was raised in central Ill. Learned to cook on my own but still in that area. I don't "do" a lot of southern stuff. But I don't care for any of the fried green tomatoes I've had or the ones I cooked...DH even admitted that mine were pretty bad. He's not like that, he will eat most things without complaint. He told me it wasn't necessary for me to EVER make them again! But I can make a wicked red velvet cake!!! Yummmmmm!

How do you GA gals do it??? My first husband was from GA, and his brother's wife made the best red velvet cake I've ever had. My 27 year old son still raves about it, and it's been more than 10 years since he last had it!! Must be something in that red GA clay.....

LOL GaKaren, then I won't force fried green tomatoes on you. I make a pretty mean Red Velvet Cake myself....maybe we could have a cook off....Toots could come at the same time and she could be the judge.
Karen/Hazel - nope Georgia clay has nothing to do with it........it's doing since you were knee high to a grasshopper - snickering!

i met an online friend recently from the old 'favorite shows' and gardening days of HGTV boards.. when phantom, robeau, grifsy sue, etc were on. the 'good gardener/sonia's garden' breuhaha happened and HGTV was kicking people off left and right. after that, 12 of us migrated enmasse to another site called Squirrel. we hung out there for about a year until there was a blow-up between two gals and that group fizzled out. that was a darned shame because we were all having so much fun there. some of us wound up at Facebook.. where we still are today. grifs and her sister, both from southern CA, were in the SF area last February and we got together at my house. it was great to meet in person.
wouldn't it be fun to designate a central location where we could all meet? that probably wouldn't happen, but we can dream.

Great photos! Ya'll sure look like you had fun! Love the lawn chairs in the back of a pickup..what could be more country? I could fit about 8 chairs on the trailer and hook it to the tractor and pull a whole bunch through the woods...wouldn't that be fun? LOL!
I love fried green tomatoes, done right. I tried some locally and they were just awful.
Love the hats too.

Karen, the secret to a good red velvet cake is REAL ingredients...like butter, don't forget the vinegar either! I forgot...use more icing than is called for...that makes it BETTER! Look up Paula Dean's recipe...that is really what I use but it is GOOD! I make a fantastic banana pudding and chocolate (Texas) sheet cake too! I LIKE making deserts! This message has been edited.
