Random Spider Webs
This time of year I see lots of random spider webs on my shrubs, often times on the bottom as well as other places. I hate them and always knock them down. Now I'm thinking maybe I should leave a couple of them where they are and let the spiders help me out.
I just find them annoying, in my way when I'm examining things and I don't want spider mites, so I always get rid of any spider webs around. Maybe I shouldn't. Yes? Confused

I do the same thing IF they are located in an area that I frequent or they interfere with my working in an area...or if they are on the house/porch any place.
Most will just either rebuild or move a little ways off and rebuild again.
But I don't bother them if they aren't in my way.

Same here, I pretty much leave them alone.

Had one of those black & yellow garden spiders decide she wanted to build her web right at the faucet for the hose. After a couple of days of my turning the faucet on & off & giving her a ride, she moved over & made her web between the house & evergreen bushes. I think she's happier there. Big Grin

I leave them alone unless they are right in a walking path.
One year I had a Golden Orb in my middle courtyard between the EE's. I fed her everyday by sticking live grasshoppers in her web. She would wait a couple of minutes after I left the area, crawl down, quickly inject them and wrap them up. It was so cool to watch.
Every morning she would eat her web and respin a new one right before the sun came up. It got bigger and bigger as she grew, about 3ft in diameter.
This went on all spring and summer until I saw a male nearby..then she was gone. Left without a word...LOL!

I know...I'm weird.

She looked just like this one.

I blast them with the hose when I am watering. Yesterday there was a lovely blue dragonfly caught in one and I tried carefully to free him but not sure if he survived. His wings might have been stuck together.

I'm sure the spiders will rebuild lots of webs where I don't see them or can't reach so I'm not concerned about them. I'm the dummy that won't k-ill spiders in my house. Either ignore them or catch them in a jar and put them outside!

You're not weird zone9 but a spider that size would totally freak me out and she'd have to catch her own food too! Big Grin

Thanks Joyluck, I was one of those tomboy girls that caught and played with lizards and bugs when I was young, so few things freak me out.

Anyway...it was a great way to get rid of grasshoppers!

Z9 - loved your spider story....how cool is your Lady......she wasn't very faithful to you though.......ditched you for a male, even after you fed her grasshoppers...ungratful hussy! Big Grin

We seem to have a lot of spider webs on the porch and deck this year. I sweep them down all the time...but leave them alone in the gardens. Good insect eaters....maybe I should start catching grasshoppers!

The worst is walking into a huge web face first! Then you do the Web-dance!

That's one incredible spider. Never seen one like that before. Pretty but I'd rather not meet up with it unexpectedly.

I don't mind the webs unless I accidentally walk into them. And lately there are tiny spiders and webs everywhere!!!!
Inside too. I wish they'd at least stay outside
I'm tired of them inside!

The photo doesn't do it justice, it's as big as my whole hand,(actually that's about the true size in the picture) but they are not aggressive despite their size and will run and hide if you touch the web.
I know that's not true for some spiders...they will make it a point to come out and bite you if you get too close.

These fuzzy Wolf spiders...they like to jump on you and give you a taste...LOL...it feels like a scratch and itches a little bit but that's it.
