I went out and bought me a hydranga from Home Depo.It says Endless summer has buds all over and 3 open blooms.Pink and lavender and a blue bloom.It was 13. bucks,not bad.I did plant it in my huge pot and maybe next year plant in the ground.I am enjoying it on the deck.And smelling my Gardenias beside the patio.

DH keeps saying get a cutting off my parents bushes.I wanted one bigger than a starting plant.So I'll get several cuttings and make several more for the yard.
I also bought 4 Susan G.Coleman pink gereniams for 2.00.I got to go plant them now.I trimmed all the dead blooms and leaves off.I did that last year and they grew so big and bloomed multiple times during the summer.I'll take pics in the morning and post.

Well Lady, congrats and enjoy your happy dancing. You are so fortunate to be able to grow hydranges...yes, they grow here. No, they don't grow for me!! And you take cuttings too.....wow.

I buy Susan G. Coleman pink plants too. In fact, I have a lily that is in bud now...prepare for pink lily pictures!!

Thanks ladies for your comments.My DM has 2 hydrangas that she got cuttings from a dear friend about 25 yrs.ago.They are huge,lite blue and beautfiul.I cut some for a vase,so I can look upon there beauty.So my mission will be to make me 3 bushes to plant in the yard for next year.

Speaking of cuttings, a couple of years ago, I trimmed my hydrangea and throw the cuttings in the compost pile. The following spring I had 2 lovely plants growing in the compost. I dug them out and potted them up.

Sigh, maybe I should take some cuttings from my friends bush and try that! Just toss them into the compost pile. Nothing else seems to work.

Years ago Toots sent me several healthy hydrangea sprouts and one big bush. All lived for the rest of that year and part of the next, then went away to hydrangea heaven. Since then I have just given up!!

Vera, I wonder why you have such a hard time with them. They seem pretty resilient here. A friend had me dig up a small one from her yard one year. It's been in three different places in my yard, and last year got pretty scorched from the sun before I moved it again, and now it seems to be loving it's new location. Are you zone 7 too? Don't give up on them if you want one.

Fluff - yes, I'm zone 7. I'm not sure what my problem is regarding hydrangeas. One thing is definitely not enough shade from afternoon sun...house & gardens face west. At this stage, just not going to worry about it anymore. Your concern is very sweet.

My hydrangea wilts almost every day when the sun is at its peak. It sits in a corner on the northeast side of my house, but still gets lots of noontime sun. As soon as the shade hits it, it starts perking up.

The Hydrangea I planted last year is doing well and has the most beautiful blue color now. It was a pretty pinky-lavendar when I put it in but I wanted blue so I treated it with Aluminum sulfate last fall and this year it's blue! I'll put some more on it this summer because it's right by my house foundation and I know it leaches alkaline from the concrete.

FL. Farm girl...my hydrangea does exactly the same thing, wilts in the sun then perks up about an hour after it sits in the shade.

Hydrangeas are my favorite flower/bush.
