Boy it is sure different this yr. They had rules this year NO FIREWORKS, campfires, fire in fire pits ect.!! It was sooo quiet. ONly booms were heard was the big displays put on by the cities and they didn't last long.
My doggie was sosoo happy!!!!

You sure were lucky; no one set off fireworks. They have had that rule where I live for a long time. People here ignore the law and put on their own displays despite the fact that fireworks are illegal. It was so bad this year that my DH said it was like being in a war zone. It was so loud and the smoke filled the air like a wildfire. Some people aren't content to play with sparklers or even more ambitious fireworks. They try to soup them up, scraping the explosive material out of firecrackers or sparklers and combining them into one super firework, sometimes in aluminum foil or paper.

What I can't figure out is how they manage to get a hold of the ones that look like the ones they use at the firework shows. They launch them so high they are visible well above a four story condo a few streets up. I guess I should be glad that no one fired guns into the air this year.

ST, a lot of areas like Sorie's and mine have a HIGH fire possibility. If anyone had set them off this year around here I'm betting they would have gotten arrested! We have planted pine forrests all around. They are crops for paper products and would burn something fierce if they catch.

We normally have 4 or 5 that set off their home displays (illegally) but this year there were only a few fire crackers that got set off. Everything is just too dry even though we have had a few small showers...not enough to wet down the stuff under the trees. We didn't even have a lot of traffic on our road like we usually do...that could have been because the 4th fell in the middle of the week instead of the weekend.

I live too live in an area with a high possibilty of fire. Our fire season is now year round. This is what my block captain emailed me. -

"You cannot light off fireworks, not even the Safe and Sane fireworks.

Possession or use of fireworks can range from a fine of up to $1,000, to jail for up to one year. Some fireworks are considered a felony and can carry penalties of time in state prison. There is zero tolerance.

There will be Task Forces enforcing these laws before, during and after the 4th of July."

There were police helicopters flying over head during all of this but nothing was done. I think it's because the police are short handed and the courts and city DA have had their budgets cut. This is a picture of a neighbors house that was being rebuilt after a previous fire.

There are stiff fines here too ($1200) and guess most folks listened. Thank goodness.

not around here in lansing, mi. our "mayor" has decided to lift the ban on fireworks that have been illegal for years, so, not only have my neighbors been setting off fireworks most every night for weeks, they are also setting off previously illegal ones too. last night they didn't quit till about 3:30 in the morning. I heard some earlier tonight, but, they are done now. some of my other neighbors have tried calling the cops on them for the noise ordinance. but, since fireworks are "legal" now, the cops won't even come & tell anyone to stop anymore. for some reason, these du'mmy's think the neighbors love it or don't mind hearing all these fireworks that sound more like gunshots, so they keep doing it all night long. I just don't get it. what's the fun in ticking off your neighbors?

They always have fireworks around here, on the 4th, Labor Day weekend, NYE or any reason to celebrate. My dogs are pretty used to it now and are usually asleep when they start going off. They lift up their heads when a big one explodes but that's about it.

We have a military gun range about 4 miles away. You can hear it in the distance, so they are pretty used to the popping sounds.

OMG, that is horrific, where do you live?
I'm really afraid of fires!!! (had a fire in my house once, yrs. ago, due to my mother's smoking.)
It was very quiet here for July 4th as well!!
I was pleasantly surprised and wondered if the Extreme Heat had anything to do with it.
