I am SORRY that HGTV no longer has any gardening shows whatsoever. Lots of new homeowners are into gardening, as well as millions of other people. WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ANY GARDENING SHOWS? How many Home Renovating Programs do you need on HGTV. I WANT GARDENING SHOWS!!!!
I am a new home owner and I really don't know too much about gardening. I learned everything on this message board. How about bringing back a couple of gardening shows????? It's all about being "Green" now. Well, Gardening is GREEN

Gardening shows for the average home owner..not just landscaping for the wealthy.. PLEASE. Real Gardenin Shows

I think the real gardening shows began to lose favor with those who make the programming decisions during the real estate bubble. Folks were spending so much money on houses, fancy landscaping, and hiring other people to make landscaping, gardening and purchasing decisions that many of the TV programs began catering to them, to the so-called pros instead of the down-to-earth gardeners.

Even Victory Garden went upscale in some episodes. It used to offer a lot of really helpful ideas and sometimes does, but it also
includes projects way beyond the means of the average gardener.

(I think the other trend in programming on a different level was to exploit people suffering from various obsessive compulsive disorders, making a mockery of them rather than providing any insightful help).

Notwithstanding this, I think that the focus has just become less and less real useful information and more spectacular makeovers which are financially out of reach for the real gardeners who do our own excavating, composting, planting, harvesting, etc. (the ones who get our hands dirty!)

Unless there's money, ratings and audience in the mix for the programming folks, I really don't expect to see down to earth gardening programs return. Sad but true.

Do we have a human discussion board monitor from HGTV on here to hear our pleas? I wouldn't even mind reruns of former shows if they don't want to put out the dollars to provide new ones.

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT "HTV" HAS ANY INTEREST TO US GARDENERS! THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING IN YEARS OF OUR REQUESTS FOR GARDENING SHOWS. I DON'T WATCH "HTV"ANYMORE!

The demographic that HGTV wants to attract are not gardeners so they won't waste money on gardening shows. They want to attract the 20-40 year old who works full time and doesn't have time or inclination to garden but does have the money to buy houses or condos and renovate them, spend money on home decor, and travel. Just like my 3 adult kids who have very easy care landscaping and perhaps a tiny backyard garden for the kids to grow a few veggies. None of them have time to watch HGTV tho so I don't know who in that demographic does watch.

All the rest of us are dinosaurs but what HGTV and their sponsors don't understand is that most of us have money to spend and their sponsors aren't making anything from us cause we're not watching their stupid shows! LOL

Joyluck, I think you are absolutely right! I think the majority of gardening enthusiasts are over 40, with their own $, but aren't necessarily looking to buy another house. And even if they did want to buy another house, they are usually wise by that time and don't need all these "How To" Programs on HGTV (about house hunting, renovating, decorating, buying/selling, etc.) There is NO MONEY in gardening for sponsors, come to think of it. We gardeners plant seeds and/or flowers and watch them grow. Not much of an investment! Oh well. I guess I won't go on any more soap boxes...I still enjoy discussing everything GARDENING even if HGTV doesn't......
