I had bought two beautiful geraniums, not thinking I put some fertilizer on them. I forgot that they don't like fertilizer. I put the kind that is grandulated and will ferlilize up to 3 months. They look very sad and dead like - is there anyway to revive them?

I fertilize my geraniums all the time. Not on a regular schedule, but several times during the year since they grow all year long. I just gave them a shot of osmocote a couple of days ago to hold them over the summer. Are you sure the fertilizer you used was slow release? If you put much of the other kind on them, it will kill them. Ask me how I know this. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Flowering annuals are best suited to be fed a water soluble type fertilizer-- a 15/30/15 (such as Miracle Gro) and given this about every 10 days to 2 weeks. Good drainage is a must. I agree, remove the plant from the pot, wash the soil from the roots and replace them in fresh potting soil. If they do look dead, cut them back some and they will recover in time. Don't fertilize further until they begin to recover new leaves, then only at half rate building their food requirements as they grow.

My geraniums get fertilizer "maybe" twice a year. But at least once. They do fine & bloom all year. And I do use a slow release. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

Annuals, because they're forever creatng flowers and depleting their energy require they be given food on a regular basis, hence the 10-day to two weeks interval and the easist way of delivery is by water soluble fertilizer. A 15/30/15 is the one that is most recommended. The higher middle number, phosphurus, promotes bloom and the reproduction of.
