Florida Farm GirlOh, Muddy!!! Your garden is beautiful!!! All your hard work is definitely paying some dividends right now.
May 25, 2012, 10:25 AM
mgtAwesome, Muddy!!! I agree, I'd love to have a whole garden of the giant allium, too. I have 15 bulbs planted, but only 7 bloomed this year...hoping for the rest of them to bloom next year.
Your pics are beautiful. So glad your gardens are doing so well...yep, they do repay you for all your efforts.

muddyshoesThis group of ladies are sooo special & probably the reason my yard is looking like this! All the encouragement over the years sure keeps ya trying to get results you want! Those large Stars of Persia came from Loretta (some might recall) when I first jumped on here. Just have a few in places that show them off & always greedy for more!!! The sweet fragrance is Valarian I believe from a plant exchange...someone really encouraged me to try it & the purple is a chinese lilac (many years in that spot now!)

vera ellenIf there are any typos in this message it's from the droll on the keyboard!!! Well manicured, beautiful, wonderful.
That's the kind of allium I want too!! In fact, I'd take the entire garden!!! I've heard of valarian, never had any. That might change! ;o)
Thank you for the tour!

jveloI wish I WAS there to see your garden now! I only saw you after dark and early in the year....
VERY impressive!
I've seen the white elderberry blooming in some of the damp areas on the roadside but yours is prettier!
What is that sweet smelling flower? I think it's the same one I have growing up through my dogwood. Something wild I guess? It does smell nice, though.

ga.karenAll beautiful Muddy! I envy you your good soil up there in the cold north!

muddyshoesSomeone said its Valarian? Scent fills the air for sure. Anything we ever planted had to be put in an amended soil. Our home was built on hard rock clay. I remember crying when we tried to break ground for the first bed & really never thought I'd have a garden & have worked very hard for it. No landscapers coming here to do the work.

jveloHmmm...mine is a tree not low like valerian. Your photo is deceptive. But the flower is similar and blooms after the dogwood tree, so I don't mind it there.

CynthiaJoyMuddyshoes, how old is your black lace? I have one about 3 years old, but it hasn't bloomed yet. And, do you sometimes lose leaves, by wilting? Sometimes I have a whole branch that wilts...I just cut it off. Will it grow leaves again, if I don't cut it off, do you know?
Judge not, you don't know their story.

silly birdBeautiful Muddy. Our zone 5-6 gardens are finally waking up. TFS.

shook29Beautiful gardens, Muddy! Yours is what I strive for, but will have to wait a few years as it is still a blank slate. I too appreciate all of the great advice and encouragement received here. Thanks, everyone!
May 25, 2012, 11:07 PM
muddyshoesThank You!
Cynthia~ Funny you should mention the wilting. I have noticed that a few times (!!)& wondered if it was the squirrels? The new growth is rather weak & thought maybe as they raced thru the branches they were doing that!? It could be from a strong hose spray ? I have no idea. Mine didn't bloom for a couple years but paid more attention to feeding it early in Spring & even gave it some alfalfa tea so that did help or perhaps it just needed to mature? No fragrance with the Lace tho. Still love the pale pink delicate blooms. I got mine at an arts & craft show years ago in a coffee can! LOL ($12)

loveangelsWhat a beautiful garden! I so enjoy looking at the garden pics.
My DM called the fragrant lacy flower...kiss me over the garden gate but not sure if that's right. I have some in my garden that originally came from my grandfather's garden.
