A question about coneflower....can it winter over in a container? I planted it in one because it was so tiny when I received it, I wanted to give it a great start.

Cynthia, might be different in your zone but if I want to winter something over in a container I dig a hole for the container in the garden. Otherwise the plant won't survive. I have a small potted rose that was a gift that has survived 2 years this way and those things rarely survive in this zone.

Very pretty coneflower and lily. TFS

Love that coneflower. The color is absolutely amazing! I would love to have some of these newer coneflowers, I have tried a few but haven't had much luck with them coming back the following year. Frown

Brownthumb, that is why I put it in the container. Will winter it in the garage, and hope it comes back next year.....

Oh, do I love that coneflower. I bought Harvest Moon couple of years ago-did nothing and died.Don't have time or inclination to baby them. Am sticking with the tried and trues mostly. But that one might sway me.

I bought my white one from HP last yr it was very small but planted it right in the garden and it did fine. It did survive the winter and is growing nicely.

oh my, that coneflower is delish!!! They are pretty hardy plants....If it got a good root system, I think it would overwinter in the garden. That being said, I have found that the new hybrids do not seem as hardy or long lasting and the old tried and true purple ones.

Pretty daylily too! The colors compliment each other.

What a gorgeous coneflower, the color is simply wonderful. I adore apricot and coral flowers. The white and pink do ok in my yard but I have a bright coral one that is struggling. I have to admit that some of the hybrid coneflowers are annuals in my yard.

Oh CJ, I love that coneflower! Where did you get it if you don't mind sharing????
Day lily is pretty too, but I'm partial to yellows, oranges & apricot colors!
My day lilies are just about done for the year. Frown

Karen, bought the coneflower from jungseed.com. bought a greenline one, too but they replaced it because it came bare root, and did not grow....

Hmmm, sunset didn't do well for me either--I wonder if the hybrids are really much more difficult to grow?
