Anybody have any idea what kind of lily this is? Saw it in Wytheville, Virginia where we had taken a little rest during our travels.

This whole garden was to die for. Whimsy galore, and beautiful plants and flowers.

It sure looks like Formosissima Amaryllidaceae (amaryllis) Aztec Lily, Jacobean Lily, St James Lily? I think they may be known as Sprekelia formosissima now.

Okay, Sillybird == here you go. We'll start with the restaurant. Built around the time of the Revolutionary War but rebuilt in 1782. It is a warren of rooms and fanciful places. No way to photograph it. If any of you are ever near Wytheville, Virginia, make it a point to go there. You won't be sorry.

It's called the LOG HOUSE RESTAURANT.

Garden photo # 4 I love this one at the grindstone. It sits inside the rabbit pen. The figure is holding a knife as if sharpening it.

There's a gift shop and outdoor bar area here. Both were closed when we were there, though. What a place to sip a glass of wine, huh?

shoulda stopped speed reading and noticed that ya found it already!!... LOL!!!....

still....here's something more...

Sprekelia formosissima 'Orient Red' - 'Orient Red' Aztec Lily, Jacobean Lily - Perennial Bulb
Sprekelia is truly one of the most spectacular flowers one can cultivate in San Antonio. This amaryllis relative is native to the Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico and is usually found on rocky slopes. My best flowering specimen is planted just a few inches from a west-facing concrete sidewalk. Others report great results from bulbs grown in rock gardens. It loves a hot exposure and blooms in response to thunderstorms in late spring, summer and fall. The cultivar, 'Orient Red', is much more floriferous than the typical selection.

Oh MY GOSH! I wanna go there. Love it...the garden is indeed fantastic! What fun to stroll around and look at all the different things. The wire guy with the stone wheel is amazing.

Thank you for sharing this. Got anymore pictures from your trip?

Thanks stilltryin and toots, for the ID on the lily. It is just the prettiest thing. I'm not sure I've ever seen it before, but it goes on the list of keepers for sure.
