If you really want to keep this rose, you might try babying it with some of JEANNE'S alfalfa tea. I also had several one-cane roses and the tea helped new basal breaks to form, thus new canes. You could either do this with the rose in its present location, or you could carefully dig it out and pot it up for babying. You really want to test the ph of your soil for roses, in particular. They simply are not happy unless the ph is somewhere between 5.7 and 6.3 as I recall. Call it 5.5 to 6.5 for ease.
