Excited!
My red hot poker bloomed! It bloomed for the very first time last summer & I missed it! Hahaha I have had such a time trying to grow these for some reason?? I planted it in the back of the border because it is suppose to be tall. Its not that tall & if I hadn't been looking for weeds I would have missed it again!

I'm hoping my Red Hot Poker blooms this year, too. Didn't bloom last year, so I moved them to the front garden. They look healthy, so I'm hoping.

Don't know what the red berries are. I have 3 GIANT hosta in the shade garden...oh, lordy, they're gigantic...shading everything around them.

Love the squirrel.

Love tht hosta bloom, which one is it?
My pokers are done for now but mine also spread a lot & they seem to bloom every other year or bloom for 2 yrs. & then skip while they spread more???? And it took me 3 yrs. I think before mine bloomed...I started all of mine from seeds, some from Duc in N. Ca.

Well, you are ahead of me on the hosta's....what few I have are not blooming yet.
Love your little red squirrel......how on earth do you get such great animal shots?

My red hot pokers finally withered away...and I haven't replaced them. Their bloom time was just too short for me to cry over their demise. Yours is very pretty.

Guessing here, but those berries look like the ones on my Service Berry tree. Leaves look about the same too. You're correct, birds love them and Service Berry is listed as a tree you should plant to attract birds.

Very pretty. At least for me, the red hot poker plants get better with age. Mine took a few years to bloom more then 1 bloom. Now it has about 7-8 on them. I was also discouraged because of the short bloom period so I only have one plant and it's more like an accent. At least the foilage is nice when it's not blooming.

The hosta is pretty too. Sorry, but I don't know what the berries are.

They do add interest to a large border but not a good stand alone plant I guess.

I can't grow the red hot poker, but I think I just read last week that they are notoriously hard to grow. So, good job on getting as far as you have.

Is your hosta a Blue Angel? Mine is already done blooming, and I think we are in the same zone, so it may not be. I'm still a newbie at ID'ing hostas--there are SO many varieties that look similar, and it's quite a science: counting vein pairs, looking at the undersides of the leaf, determining flower times and colors, length of scapes...AACK! Eek It can be quite confusing! That's why I've become so careful about labeling mine--I'd never remember it otherwise!

Don't know what the berries are. I grew 7 red hot pokers from seed. They were slow to bloom but this year several of them have a dozen blooms. In all reality, I could take them or leave them. If they are gone next year it would not matter. I definitely would not do anything to help them die.
