About two weeks ago, sections of my hydrangea petals started turning brown and dry. The petals behind the brown section is still beautiful in color and texture. Also, the leaves are still green and healthy. I use a soaker hose to water daily.... What is happening??

Thanks for the site, FFG. I have a lovely pale blue Hydrangea, and a lovely purple, planted beside each other. I have rooted some from the blue one, and planted one in another place. That one is also blue. I gave my sister one, and hers has pink blooms. I guess we need to add something to her soil.

The brown flowers might have been damaged--a broken stem will stop it feeding. Daily watering--seems to me a lot considering the source is a soaker hose. Overwatering can happen to outdoor plants as well if the ground cannot absorb it and have the excess run away.
See if cutting back on as much water results in better growth.

You evidently have a 'bigleaf' variety of "macrofphylla" with its colorful bloom that will show pink if the soil is alkaline, and blue if acidic.
Many gardeners feed the soil around the base aluminum sulfate to change the soil to a more acid pH or leave the soil untreated and the resulting flower color will be pink.
A slight feeding will result in somewhere between the two colors and not necessarily on all blooms.

My hydranga has blue flowers and have been blooming at least a month and are still getting new blooms. I noticed that the first blooms that came out are turning brown but thought nothing of it, because it is the natural progression of hydrangas....bloom, stay beautiful for a long time and then start turning brown.

From statistics somewhere...more plants are killed by over watering than any other way.
