A few weeks ago I planted some annuals in our front yard and as I expected, the rabbit living in our yard took advantage of them. This happens every year so I was wondering if anyone knows of any sources for artificial flowers. I figure they shouldn't attract any hungry animals and should look almost as good as the real thing.

Hi Clay - are you wanting to put the artificial ones in pots or stick in the ground? You can buy artificial flowers pretty much anywhere, Wal Mart, K-Mart, Dollar Stores, etc. Places like Hobby Lobby, Old Time Pottery and others along that line have huge assortments of artificial flowers and arrangments. I'm sure you would have some of those type stores near you. ve

I would check the $1 store. There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments. Janet Kilburn Phillips

there are good suggestions here for you to find what you are looking for. the only one i'd add to the list is 'Michael's' because thats what we have here in CA. silk flowers nowadays are so realistic compared to the plastic ones that were our only choice years ago. i have some sunflowers in a pot that one would know they aren't real only because its not sunflower season. i'd say go for it.

Also, be aware that depending on where you go to purchase them...they CAN be pricey! I'd hit the cheaper stores first...Dollar stores, Walmart, Kmart. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

Yes, the others are right, there are TONS of places to buy them. (I just saw them in Michaels a couple of months ago). I wanted to add that some of them are meant to be used indoors so you should be careful and probably not invest a whole lot of money until you are sure they will withstand all kinds of weather. I hate artificial flowers that look obviously fake. They always have these colors that are just a lil too bright, and I always know when they're not real. Try to buy flowers that look very natural looking for a nice look that will fool everyone from the street!!! (My mother LOVED fake flowers for indoors, and I have them saved in a suitcase. I could not bear to throw them out) SPRING HAS F I N A L L Y SPRUNG!!!!!

I have a neighbor who does that! You can tell if you are a true flower lover! I can tell even from the street. So against fake flowers but as I grow older (why is it) LOL that they seem appealing! Whatever floats your boat! That's why they say plant things in clumps & groups & never rows. If a squirrel takes out a few bulbs in your row it screams of ~~~ my flowers are missing! If they are missing in a clump no one knows but you & just looks like less is planted there! "Those that throw mud, lose ground!" :>)

I've known 2 homes who use them. It's very obvious and looks fake. The one kept forsythia in the yard several months beyond the normal time that forsythia bloom. The other just plunks artificial bouquets in pots outside. They can't sell that house so I guess the phony flowers don't help but add to the problem. There are flowers that are resistant to animals. Otherwise I would stick with shrubs.

I had a neighbor who put out some greenery around their front door in urns. They must have been inexpensive because after 3 weeks they'd turned an Aqua blue green color. They stayed there way too long. Point: Keep an eye out for fading. I've also seen some silk fern fronds put in hanging baskets....they actually looked pretty good, but they were expensive and very life like.
