the color IS NOT as bright red as shown here, so don't get all excited about what you are seeing'. its a duller red than the shade my camera captured... but definitely in the red family.
i'll try to get a shot thru the kitchen window to see if it is more accurate. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bana,

I've seen it in a local garden and it is a standout for me. It definitely has orange in it but I like orange reds. I've looked up the "parent plants" and it's amazing how combining them led to this color. I have several new reds in my garden this year, Fabulous Frieda is probably the best. The extreme heat here fries the daylily flowers by noon so I have tried to get pictures before 9:30 am, I will see what I will be able to post. I try not to buy what I haven't seen in person since some colors do not photograph well even for the professionals. The light, heat, humidity, etc all affect the color in the picture. That being said, my DH bought himself a couple of daylilies while we were out hosta shopping, one which was pictured as a light rose with a purplish blue eye is now blooming in our garden and is actually orange, he is quite upset. Never let a loved one out of your sight when in a nursery, you just don't know what they will buy!

are you kidding? don't ask that because i'd want your whole collection.
seriously, i'm looking at my bed (new this year) with a critical eye. my favorite, which surprised me, turned out to be the freebie 'Betty Warren Woods'.. a soft yellow. second is 'Dixie Chick'.. the one that started all this. i'm finding much as i love the vibrant colors others post here, i like the soft colors for my garden.
thing is, the bed looks skimpy with new plants and i sure hope it fills in better with time. i may put more in this fall.. in between existing plants for more fullness next year. i can always transplant them later when they crowd one another.
question: do the plants last as shrubs all year? i imagine they'd have to in order to get bigger each year. thanks.

don't know that much about day lilies. I just started growing them. Some I have stay green all year and some die back and resprout in spring. According to the catalogs they are in catagories, diploids, triploids. Not sure what those terms mean yet,

Bana, I see that so far you are able to contain your enthusiasm and select a given type for your garden. (We all started slow and then one day, it just happened--we all started to buy big daylilies, small daylilies, bright daylilies, soft colored daylilies) So it may be a good thing to be able to walk around your garden and not step on the hordes of daylilies that the rest of us have plunked into our soil. I like to visit my local growers and see them in person. I can't tell you how many times what I saw online was not the case when I actually saw the daylilies in person. Several of my local growers will also sell clumps of daylilies that they aren't going to use to hybridize, so since I don't hybridize it doesn't matter to me that the color is a bit off or the branching isn't perfect! It's amazing what $15 will buy! Anyway to get back to your question about filling out, mine seem to explode in growth by the third year, that is the ones that I buy a single or double fan--the clumps well they are large to start, maybe 4-6 fans or more so they often need to be divided by the third year.

you bring up some good points. my enthusiasm is waning fast as i look at this years skimpy looking results and wondering if i should stick to my plan. i have too much money invested to not keep them but am thinking maybe i will take the wallflower out of the back circle and put all the daylilies in there. the wallflower went in April 2010 looking like this....

and today it looks like this. i did prune back to within the circle in early spring and its overflowing again before the summer is even over. it needs to go next fall, and think i'd enjoy the lilies there as a mass planting.
