Our newspaper prints up a tips section once in a while for gardeners and his comments this week were:
sprinkle blood meal around to repel rabbits or spray with "Liquid Fence"
Start spraying tomato and blossom set on your blossoms as soon as they open. This will help plants to start setting fruit on sooner. This product will also help peppers, melons, cucumbers, okra and eggplant.
Thrips are starting to deform the buds on roses now. Spray the buds with 'Borer, Bagworm, Tent Caterpillar & Leafminder Spray".This product is also available in ready to use hose end applications under the name "Spinosad".
this comes from Pueblo Colorado, zone 5b.
Does any of this sound familiar to you guys? Do you use something else that is similar to these suggestions?

The bloodmeal works pretty well and it fertilizes at the same time, but needs to be applied after a rain.

I didn't know there was a product called "tomato and blossom set" until I looked it up and it's made by Bonide.
It sounds interesting.
I wonder if Blood meal will work with skunks...I think one is digging up my flowers since I can smell skunk when I go out the back door on most mornings. I check fairly frequently to see if any of my plants need resetting due to the digging. I'm hoping when they get larger they won't come up so easily.
The Ferti.lome bagworm stuff website isn't very specific...what types of borers?
It would be nice if it were squash vine borers, but I doubt it....
just as I doubt that any of this stuff is organic.
But that WOULD be nice!

jvelo, I'm not sure what type borers they are referring to. I haven't been to Walmart or hardware store to look up any of the mentioned products and this nursery is 90 miles away. But I might be able to call them and find out more info. I'll be having squash plants in the veggie garden soon so I'll need all the help I can get Big Grin
