I was on my knees crawling through the october bean rows picking beans this morning. Suddenly I heard this faint squeaking/grunting sound. I looked around trying to figure out what it was and where it was coming from...it just continued, so I stood up to look around...and then I saw it. There in the middle between the rows was this mound of twigs, leaves and what looked to be Homer (dog) hair that I toss out for the birds. My knee had been right on top of the mound, so I pulled all that stuff away and this is what was underneath. Poor babies I was squishing them. I know that rabbits wreck havoc with gardens, but these sweeties are just too cute. I covered them up and came for the camera...sorry, the sun was really bright. I tried to shade them with my hat so the pictures would turn out ok. Best I can tell, there are 6 of them.

Enjoy

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww how precious!
I know you'll be sorry for this later, but they are just precious. Course, if I even see a full grown bunny in the garden, I try to make friends with it. I don't know which is worse squirrels or rabbits?! They are both cute and destructive!

Oh, they ARE so cute.

Little story here: My neighbor found a bunny nest underneath her potentilla bush & tried to make sure her Irish Setter didn't find it. Well the dog found the nest & became the bunny protector...if anyone came near the bush, the dog was right there...she didn't bark or growl or act aggressive in any way...just watched over her bunny babies. So cute.

Marvel of marvels! Isn't that something! Discovering nature like that is really neat isn't it. Up in Kansas this last time we also discovered a bunny nest in the grass. I went online and read that mama would be feeding them in the evening so we watched from inside a window, after the sun went down. Sure enough, mama came. They had meanwhile scampered away from their nest & I was so afraid they would get lost and not know their way back. But there the mama was standing up stradling her babies as they nursed under her. She kept a watchful eye out for danger.

Simply adorable....and I can say that now that my one little bunny who 'bout ate my whole yard was relocated and I have not seen any around much since...yard has rebounded!!! WOO HOOO!!!!

Very very very cute....my gf told me she raised some abandoned and they refused to leave yard or be afraid of humans....not good.

Meanwhile enjoy the babies!!! Maybe invest in some quality fencing....goodness knows I tried every other method. Having dog may help...is your yard fenced in or open? Young bunnies can wiggle through the 2 inch diamonds of steel fencing.....Roll Eyes Wink

I'm sure these little guys won't be so adorable when they start nibbling on my veggies. I just hope the cats don't find the nest, and I'm actually surprised that they hadn't found it already.

SSTR, what a sweet story - I've never seen a momma nurse her babies.

Mgt - love the story of the bunny guard dog. How sweet is that!

Alice - we live in the backwoods....no fencing other than cattle fencing to keep them out of the yarden & garden. It would be hard to keep the bunnies, possums, skunks, turkeys & groundhogs out of anything...that's why I said it was useless to try to relocate anything here. We are the place where people relocate things back into the wild - LOL.

They are cute at that age & for a little while longer...then they become pests!

We had a young one a couple of years ago that decided our front yard was going to be his playground. I threw cracked corn on the ground for the birds & this bunny, Harvey (of course) would run at the birds trying to get them to play with him...he would run away after charging them like he was expecting them to chase him.
And then there was the time...we heard this clump, clump, clump...coming FAST! It was a rabbit running for it's life...a red fox was chasing it thru our back yard! Full daytime! Pretty soon the fox came back thru without any bunny...so I guess the bunny found a place to hide.

I like that guard dog story too! That's cute! Big Grin

Oh my they are cute. No bunnies in the city where I live the foxes or hawks would have them.
Probably why we don't have any!!

So sweet! Of course most babies are, aren't they, at least until they grow up into hungry monsters and eat your entire garden! Just thinking of the horrid marmots around here who are likely cute when babies also.

I've always found it strange how few rabbits are around here and have never had my garden damaged by them. I think the larger predators take care of them. We've sometimes seen their tracks in the snow but don't see them otherwise.

Big Grin Guess I don't think too hard when I relocate in a park that is bordered by homes within a square mile....but that's funny to hear from someone who is aware others send their refugees into the area...Wink. I always giggle when people are talking about relocating mice and such then tell me it's the same park I go to...then we both wonder how many other peeps do the same!:P

Those are so precious. But I know like everyone else, they can eat up our lovely flowers we've worked so hard to grow. I've had two baby bunnies and a mom. I think it was babies that ate my delphinium. Frown But it's ok if that's all they eat.

I would love to grow veggies but at 70, it is too difficult. I do see bunnies all over my garden but to date they just eat grass and have never done any damage to any of my flowers and plants.

They are soooo cute! Yep they will be hopping around soon looking for something to eat. How smart mom was to put her nest in your garden! LOL!

One of my dogs was going ballistic this morning looking out the bedroom window. It was a Mom Armadillo and two babies sniffing around the creek. I'm sure they were catching some tiny crayfish and baby turtles which seem to be hatching in several places now.

Awwww, so cute.

Vera Ellen, my cat did find the nest in my yard. I won't go into detail because it's gross, but let's just say, my cat is lucky she's still around. Mad Poor little things, just newborns.

On a lighter note, Bunny mom is back in the yard after her mourning period. She sat right 20 feet away from us last night cleaning up the bird seed that was on the ground.

Wanda - I'm sorry about the bunnies......mother nature at work for sure, and rest assured, momma bunny will be busy providing the earth with more babies very soon.

I checked yesterday and the bunnies are still in the nest. I am so surprised that my cats haven't found them. They roam the garden, the barn, the sheds and bring me rats, mice and Censored birds. Wish they'd leave the birds alone.

Alice, yes, I cringe everytime I read about someone relocating a critter back into the wild. I know town people don't want them, but us country people have plenty of our own to deal with, plus the immigrants Big Grin

Z9 - armadillo's - the momma & babies would be cool to see, but you can keep them. We call them possums on the half shell around here....yep, they've made their way this far north...fugly looking varmits too.
