Can anyone tell me what this is and what kind of tree it came off of? The tree has white bark and I know it's a maple, but don't know what kind of maple. I want to say the tree is a surgar maple, but I'd rather hear from someone who knows for sure. ![]()

Thank you, Conrad. I really did think it was a sugar Maple, except for the balls. Thanks for setting me straight.

Barb, if not a dictionary, then maybe an encyclopedia will have pictures of 'leaves' of common American trees which you can compare your leaf with. White barked maple.....that would be a new one for me. Glad Conrad was able to help.

Could it be an American Sycamore? http://dendro.cnre.vt.edu/dend.../factsheet.cfm?ID=36 www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

WHAT A GORGEOUS PICTURE! I wish we had herons of that color here. He/she is gorgeous.

I think the bark of the sycamore is gorgeous in color and pattern. It is a very costly large tree to have pruned here, unless the trimmer can reach it with a bucket truck. The bark is slippery, and peels off under foot, so it can be hazardous for a trimmer to climb even with harness rigs.

your right, conrad. the bark is beautiful in the color and pattern. the only other tree that i think comes close is a birch. I love how the leaves hang on. it's one of the few trees that i can I.D. without a problem. we have several large sycamores in our pasture and we really don't have a need to prune them. i really like the large trees and the leaf shape.

Barb,I'm glad someone ID'd the tree for you.....definitely a sycamore...the leaves are a PITA to shred in the fall, but the trees themselves are gorgeous. Love them, and they make great shade trees. That heron picture is beautiful...like a work of art. Except for the Great Blues, we don't have those here. ve

I wish we did have these in the front yard, but they are in the pasture and some distance from the house. Unfortunately, we have sweet gum trees for shade and I hate those things. I especially hate the seed balls! After a rain storm, I'm always picking up the limbs that fall out of the trees. We only have the Great Blues, here, but they are so spectacular.
