Hard to tell on the first one, my guess is a hickory. Second one is definitely an oak.

The first one "might" be a pecan too! Like VE said, it's hard to tell from those pics. But yes, the second one really looks like a variety of oak...there are MANY varities!
Google oak leaves & see if you can find it.

Hi All, DH and I are still trying to decide if this (pic #1) is a bush, tree or just a weed that we need to pull up. This picture was taken today. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the blurriness. Took it with my camera phone. It has yellow blooms.

With the blooms...I don't think it is hickory & it sure isn't a pecan.

Gee, never saw a tree that young bloom. Can you take a closer pic of the top of it & the flower? I can't tell what the leaves look like.

Mgt and Ga.Karen, I'm sorry for the poor picture quality. I'll try to take much clearer picture sometime later this week. It did have leaves down at the bottom but DH pruned it. I'm thinking it isn't a tree. Thanks for your help.

Georgia Peach, I can't help on the ID, but I have a question for you. On the old BHG Garden Talk discussion board, I believe I read that you are related to a poster that lives in Florida. She was a regular on the board and I really enjoyed her posts. I believe her name was Mari ann? She had beautiful knock out roses I remember.

Georgia Peach - its a WEED. Pull it up and get rid of it. Can't tell you what the name of it is, though. Saw them all the time in our fields. I thought that's what it would look like when I looked at the little plant.

Both hickory and pecan leaves are pointed.

The second one looks like a chinkapin oak. Do a google search and you'll find pictures and more info.

I just got this book at the last Audubon meeting called "Eastern Forests" which has info on trees, wildflowers, birds, mammals and insects of North America's forests. Helpful already cause that's where I first found the chinkapin oak and then did a search to confirm.

Hi everyone and thank you for the replies.

FFG, I was down at our coasthouse this past weekend and was going to post today about my mystery bush. DH and I have figured out it must be a weed. While riding around we saw several just like it growing wild in the woods, LOL !! I think I have an Audubon book on trees in the Southeast. I'll look for the chinkapin oak.

It is very pretty and yes, Wavy, very healthy
