This groundhog decided to make a fiest of himself last week and ate ALL of the petunia blooms I had just planted. Plus, he ate ALL the new growth on ALL of my coneflowers and BES. He was acting like he was drunk and was coming on my deck constantly. I was concerned and got a trap for him. He walked right past the trap to eat more petunias. Then I scared him off and he wasn't seen in a week. Since I had no luck, I took the trap back.

Today I went out and ALL the growth on the new petunias are totally gone and one of my flower pots was turned over.

What else can I do? I keep picturing myself in the movie "Groundhog Day". If I wasn't so close to other houses, I would definately use stronger methods.

What did you bait the trap with. I have no idea what they eat, except for your flowers. Maybe some peanut butter? That seems to attract a lot of different critters. I'm so sorry about your flowers. The young starlings when they first fledge demolish any annuals I put out. I simply don't plant them until the birds grow up a bit now.

I have one too.No advice to give you. I do chase him every time I see him but that does not always work. The rabbit is feasting on my painted ladies. Everytime I think one will bloom he eats the bud off. Just the bud!!LOL

I agree with MO...I would borrow a friends dog for a few days and let him scare them off, and then "mark" the territory to hopefully keep them away for a while. I have a pair of Jack Russells, so we do not have a single mole, vole, gofer, etc. At least the dogs are doing something to earn their keep! Big Grin

Thanks. I don't have ANY pets and I don't want any either. I've got 4 kids to pick up after. That's enough for me.

I baited the trap with sliced apples, like the local animal control suggested.
