Got a freebie today. Do these require fertilizer? I have never done so to any of mine in the past....just wondering if anyone else does and what they use?

I have never fertilized mine. Congratulations on a free plant - the best kind. What color is it?

Pretty shade of dark purple, short, front border, early bloomer. Going to put in front of some taller light purples.

i don't fertilize mine, but i do give them a healthy dose of lime every fall and early spring.
i have found out that liming my iris' is something that peole in the south do and not everyone does it. i have no idea if it helps with the blooming or not. i do know that lime helps the grass and weeds grow!
the person who taught me about iris', taught me to always lime them twice a year.

I never do anything with mine. I just separate them every few years & let them do their thing.

I never do anything either. They're spreading like crazy though.

In the spring I toss out handfuls of regular garden fertilizer, the kind you buy for trees and shrubs. That's all I do.
