Hi everyone! I wanted to share with all of you garden-lovers that HGTVGardens has launched its own Pinterest account with nothing but garden-related goodness. No home renovations, no real estate stuff -- strictly gardens. From how-tos to garden-to-table recipes, it's all in one place. We hope you'll follow along and recommend other stuff we should share with the community. I really enjoy reading the threads here and getting to know you all! "Bloom where you are planted."

Mallory, Its a very good thing to have someone associated with HGTV pay attention. While I don't mind some home remodel shows, a steady diet of it is boring. I'm also a quilter and a craft show can't be found on HGTV these days. I think if you did some checking, you'd find that quilting and gardening are far bigger industries than remodeling. I'd surely appreciate some attention being paid to the needle crafts (not just quilting) and to gardening again. Sorry girls and boys, I just had to take the opportunity to put the good word in here. www.floridafarmgirlsworld.blogspot.com Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Unfortunately although I can't guarantee what kind of programming occurs on the television channel, we want you to know that we've got our ears and eyes wide open to the gardening community and through hgtvgardens.com, our goal is to provide you with some more robust, topic-specific content, even if it's just on the web for now. Hopefully this changes in the future based on your feedback, so we appreciate every single bit of it! "Bloom where you are planted."

thanks for the heads up, mallory. now i'll never get off this darned cpu!

Sorry, I don't do those type of sites. No facebook either, nor twitter or any other of the older ones. I haven't watched hgtv television since Gardening by the Yard went off. I'd already seen most of the shows 2 or 3 times by the time it finally quit being live. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

Ditto what Karen said. I am not on Pinterest, Facebook or Twitter. I am so not interested in "Facebook". If you didn't want to talk to me when we were in school together, why would I want to talk to you now??? And I really don't care what you did last night (on Facebook!) I just really would like to see plain old fashioned GARDENING T.V. PROGRAMS. Without all the other smoke screens, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, etc. I even signed up for several Gardening Newsletters in the last few mos. to get some gardening info. It's still E-Mail, I miss TV and NOTHING beats Paul James and his Gardening Show. Why Can't "HGTV" bring some new Gardening Show(s) to TV???? OR REMOVE THE 'G' FROM "HGTV" now, this year!!! SPRING HAS F I N A L L Y SPRUNG!!!!!

I just recently joined Pinterest and found some awesome gardening ideas...primarily crafty things that are easy to make...like filling an old work glove (in a cupped position) with concrete, letting it harden, then peeling away the glove and using it as a planter for succulents. I'm not a big fan of it yet, but it is something to do/look at during the winter months and the more I view, the more I like it. My granddaughter urged me to join Pinterest...she loves it. She has an entire "board" dedicated to wedding ideas and she's not even engaged. I'm on facebook too.....for me, it's a good way to keep in touch with my cousins, who are stretched all across the country. None of us are very good at emails, so we can keep up with each other on FB. Also, a bunch of the old Garden Talk crowd are on facebook and it's a good way to keep in touch with old friends, some I've met, some just like here....board friends...but we had about 15 years together. Twitter - don't have a clue....those two things are enough technology for me. As for the HGTV programming - it literally stinks in my opinion. Agree with Wavy, either put some good, down to earth normal people shows back on, or else remove the G from the title. I am not letting anyone follow me home and redo my yard for gazillions of dollars. I don't care to view the homes of the rich and famous either. I do like House Hunters and House Hunters International...otherwise, it's a non-used channel here. Just my two cents worth on the subjects. veThis message has been edited. Mallory: I love Pinterest and am now following HGTVGardens. I have boards with so many of the things I love; my garden (of course), flowers, photos of the rain, and more...it is awesome. I recommend it for hours and hours of mindless fun (if you have the time) - much more interesting than FACEBOOK. You really don't have to interact with anyone if you don't want to.

HGTV lost the G a long time ago and I no longer watch their channel, if they bring back gardening show's I will watch again, otherwise I'm not interested.....

As for programming---sponsors are hardware mft. or big DIY boxstores. Why go down to the paltry level of crafts and gardening? The sponsors wouldn't like it.

Facebook - Never. Twitter - When one of my kids is out of the country and calling is too expensive, I track him on twitter just to know he's ok. Pinterest - It is like tearing out those magazine pages and collecting them in a photo album. Plus you see everyone else's pictures and can save them. I saw the concrete in the glove idea, etc. too. It's just strolling through pictures and I get my conversation & interaction HERE not there. What is not to like? Summers are just this side of hell, but you don't have to shovel sunshine... Mallory, I appreciate your directing us to the website. I wouldn't have known about it if you hadn't. I'm not interested in joining a site like that, though. The photos on the Pinterest site are lovely, but it's just not the same as a TV show. Here's why: 1. I can watch TV in the same room with my husband. Computer time is spent alone. Even though we aren't directly interacting with each other, we are doing something in common. We can comment on what we see... We can say, "that's stupid" or "let's try that!" Together time is never a bad thing; computers don't allow any of that. 2. When I want information from the Web, I have to work at it. Click this link, read this, read that, try finding the page I was on yesterday, search for clarification of the info. Make a file so I don't lose it again. When I watch TV, it's all laid out in front of my eyes. For visual learners, presentation is the best way of learning. Learning from TV is much more relaxing to me than learning from the Web. 3. I LOVE my hi-def TV. (Well... "love" is a strong word... But I really like it.) How awesome would a garden tour be in hi-def?! I don't get that on my 17" monitor. There is almost nothing on earth, much less on TV, more detestable than a House Hunters marathon. Egads, save us all!

You explained it very well! Thank you! I haven't watched hgtv in years....and I won't until they come back with some garden shows that make sense...not small fortune makeovers or installations. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

Thank you all for the great comments. My goal isn't to use these boards to push our content on you in an intrusive way, but to get to know you all and be a listener as to what we can do to improve. I'm the new community manager for HGTVGardens.com and want to be helpful to you in any way I can. You have certainly been welcoming and helpful to me! Happy Friday! You've taken on a tough job, Mallory, but I for one am glad you're here to listen! Happy every day to you!

Mallory, we all thank you for listening. Just how much influence do we as gardeners have?...any idea? My point is that the last couple of years have set some records in the sale of garden seeds & equipment, etc. Which tells me that not only are us old timers doing veggie gardening, so are a lot of folks who never have before....some because they want to be assured of the quality of their foods (when possible), some to get away from GMO'd foods & some to help keep their food costs down. We are seeing where some have been take to task & even court due to planting their front yards in veggie gardens. Even apartment/condo dwellers are doing some minor gardening in pots if they have a sunny spot available. Sooo, why aren't we seeing some type of gardening show that helps these new comers? One board I visit even has some older widows who are gardening for the first time in their lives. With the cost of everything else going up the retirement funds just aren't stretching as far as most of us had hoped/planned. I know it takes sponsors to get the ball rolling...so what do we need to do to get the sponsors to pay attention? "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence."
