Short Like Me

muddyshoesShort Like Me
Jokes on me! I picked out this sprouting clearance amaryllis in a box & thought since my previous ones had withered in the hot summer sun I'd at least have one for my kitchen table. 50% of the cost was going to breast cancer charity...but looks like it won't be sending up the tall stems. The flowers are trying to open today! It's a shortie! It might have wanted more light in that little box?

nettiejayIt could turn into a happy accident of nature. At least you won't have to stake the top heavy stem!
Please post a pic of it after the blooms open, okay?

vera ellenMuddy, thank you for the explanation....a few years ago I gave our former pastor's wife an amaryllis in a box for Christmas.....she certainly wasn't a green thumb person, but I assured her that she should just follow the directions on the box. Fast forward several months later...and she informs me that she had finally remembered to plant the bulb, but it wasn't tall and stately like the picture, but short and stubby. I figured she had left in the box way too long......and you just confirmed my conclusion.
However, she did tell me that the short little blooms were gorgeous and numerous....so it wasn't a total waste of money!
Also, had you visually pictured as tall......so now you tell us you're short!! Will have to rearrange my perception!

ga.karenHey Muddy, if you get blooms who cares how tall it is. Besides, it was for a great cause!!! That's what really counts!
VE, that's funny...MONTHS later she plants it!

Toots➢ The amount of light will effect the size of the plant so be aware that too little light will cause a long, spindly flower stem and too much light will create a short stem.

muddyshoesVery Interesting! Perhaps the bulb was peeking out of the box? Mine stayed short. Very pretty tho!It fully opened on Christmas day so very nice! Loved it short! :>)

owieI would say that was a pleasant mistake. I like it shorter. The other ones tend to fall over if not staked. It is really pretty.

nettiejayLovely color! I like the height, too.
Wonder if it will be 'regular' height next season.
