I went out to try for some photo's of the goldfinches on the sunflowers. (see next post) Enroute, I noticed this little female enjoying herself among my few remaining flowers.

I must have taken 20 shots trying to capture her as she nuzzled every bloom available. Naturally, even with sport/speed setting, she was very fast.

Can you spot her on the coral salvia?




what about in the plume celosia?






and then......a tattered swallowtail and her sharing the zinnia's. Yippee

Those pics are great. You could enlarge them and make a photo wall of the series. Nice that you were able to capture the moments.

Great shots! They get so interested in all the flowers they don't mind you taking pictures.
I usually have to be very still for them to come close.

Shook, how sad that no hummers have come to your garden...I know you have beautiful plants for them because we've seen the pictures. Maybe they will find you soon.

Well, I don't have any, but I can enjoy them at my parents house. My mom has a beautiful feeder with 4 or 5 separate areas for them to drink. They will actually perch while we are on the porch (as long as we stay still).

They are like little UFOs flying around! They fight over the feeders, chirping (for lack of a better word) at each other. They fly so close to our heads when on the porch that we can hear the hum of their wings. I've joked that we should wear helmets when sitting on the porch!

Wow, Vera is "on the move"..... I would make a series of small photos of these pics and frame them (in 5 X 7 frames). These are very nice to look at in the wintertime and it's a wonderful memory of a happy summer day in 2012!
Needless to say, I haven't seen any hummingbirds here, but I always see Hummer bird feeders in the stores, so we must have them around!

Joy, do you have red hair or were you wearing red? LOL - I'm sure those hummers thought you were a flower - what a wonderful thing to happen.

One day hubby was on the front porch...he had on a very faded red plaid workshirt. This little female flew up so close to his chest that he could have reached out and grabbed her. Of course, like you, my camera was in the house.

Shook -- I bet there are hummers around you house but you just don't see them. Put up a feeder and keep tabs on it and I'll be they'll be there within a few days.

You can make your own nectar -- 1 part sugar, 4 parts water. Heat until sugar is melted. Cool and pour into the feeder.

Thanks, FFG, I'll try that! DH swore he saw one last year. I think our development may be too new without a lot of mature trees for them. But I'll put one up and see!
