Question about Iris
This is my first experience with bulbs, other than indoor paperwites in December and January. I planted several in the garden in October. Most came up and bloomed except several of the Bearded Iris. They came up and are still there-no flowers, just nice green plants..Anyone know why some never bloomed? I am in zone 10.

how deep are they planted? if the rhyzome is totally buried under the dirt they won't bloom. part of the rhyzome has to be above the dirt & showing. I have some that I just planted only 2 years ago, that have to be lifted & redone, because they are now to deep. I've heard the planting process as compared to a duck. the roots go below ground, but the rhyzome stays above ground. like the web feet being below the water, but the rest of the duck is above the water. after a little practice it gets easier to do it. some people say to put a mound in the middle of the planting hole, & spreading the roots around the mound. but, if you are doing a lot of them, that takes a lot of time to do. but, if they are too deep, you are going to have to re~do them.

It also may take several years for them to bloom. I definitely would look at how deep they are planted.

Planted too deep and not enough sun are the main culprits. I'm guessing yours are too deep.
