I was wondering if I can put the paper from my shredder in my compost pile? If so does it have to be a certain kind of paper, like neswspaper?
    Thanks for all your help.

Sure, you can put shredded paper into your compost pile. You shouldn't use the colored inserts from the Sunday paper, tho.

Thanks for the quick reply. I wondered about the colored inks, so thanks for adding that thought. Have a great day!

Actually, MGT, all print dyes must be soy based these days, so even the color inserts are safe to go into the compost, tho they may take a little longer to decompose because of the slick paper they are printed on.

Our local newspaper had an article on being "green" a while ago and the editor stated that most all of the paper is printed with soya based inks, but they still use some petroleum based inks with heavy metal pigment. Many of the ad inserts printed on that glossy paper will also be printed with petroleum based inks with heavy metal pigments. The only reason the newspapers have gone to soya based inks is economics, not because they are required to.
