Hi All.

We got a Azelea last spring and planted it in a bed.. Well winter is finally over.. I hope.. I do not see any buds or new growt on it at all.. it looks dry to me. I'm in zone 5-6 how do I know if it made it throught the winter and when do they start to bloom again. We had a few cold nights this week and some morning frost.

Thanks

It should already be blooming or close to it by now.
It must be dead. If the branches are brittle and you scratch your fingernail on the bark and don't see some green, it's a goner.
Was it zoned for your area or was it a gift plant?
Sometimes gift azaleas aren't hardy for northern climates. They are just bred to look good for Mother's day, Easter, or whatever at the time.

I wouldn't get too worried b/c it hasn't bloomed yet. Some just bloom later then others. I would do as Jvelo suggested and scratch the bark with your fingernail. If there's green, then it's still alive. It's it's brown, then it's dead.
