DH & I had to stop off at Lowes earlier today to get some hinges...he's going to be building swinging gates to keep the neighbor's dogs off our deck.
Well, I can't go to Lowes without checking out the markdown racks in the garden center! So of course, I found a few things. Was just chatting with the cashier when she told me that the dept. head would sometimes mark that stuff down further if you bought 10 or more from the markdown racks...down to 90% off!
I got....
1-2.5 gal. Shasta Daisy (org. 6.99)
2-1.5 gal. Yellow Spark Blanket Flowers
2-1 gal. Pikes Peak Purple Penstemon
2-1 gal. Tango Crossover Asiatic Lilies
1-.5 gal. New Demension Rose Salvia
1-.5 gal. Merleau Blue Salvia
1-.5 gal. Gazania

My total including sales tax....$5.33!!!!!!!

SO BE SURE TO ASK IF YOU ARE GETTING STUFF FROM THE MARKDOWN RACKS THERE!!!!
Not all stores may do this but is sure won't hurt to ASK!

Done good there girl! What a deal is right! Last week when I was either at Home Depot or Lowe's the help was removing plants from the shelves and putting them in a cart. They were scrapping them. I asked where they were going to be "scrapping" them as I had full intension of folloing that cart to his destination! They said where they were taking them customers could not go. Now isn't that a bummer!

GaKaren, what a deal! I never get that lucky!
Congrats and a big WoW.

SSTR - our Home Depot puts plants like that in a dumpster with a lock to keep people from digging them out. Such a waste. Looks like a little bit of **$ from a markdown would be better than nothing at all........unless it's a loss write off.

SSTR, when I worked at Walmart they would reduce & then what didn't sell went into a compactor (giant one). Our HD is pathetic and they do the same thing. The grower gives them a certain amount of credit cause it is to expensive to transport them back to the grower to salvage the pots or soils.

I agree about a waste though. I would rather see them donate them to parks, hospitals, nursing homes, etc. than just dump them!

I went to a lowes out of town earlier this month. they also had a buy ten get a better discount deal. but, they said buy ten of the exact same plant. no mixing them up for ten. I've never heard of that. I did manage to find a deal on a couple of plants, but who needs 10 of the exact same plant? that's no deal at all. they had 6 to 8 racks of clearance plants, but, mostly annuals. i found a rose & a rhodendren from that trip for less than 10 bucks.

aggie, I agree, I wouldn't want 10 of the same plant either.
Next time ask to speak to the dept. manager, I'll bet someone just didn't make things clear to the workers.
