Squirrels have a way of popping up on this forum so here's a place to post your favorite pictures.

these were two adorable babies from 2008 that would always show up together. they were inseparable that year. don't know about following years as all squirrels look alike to me.

edited to add.. i had to stop feeding them so they could learn to find food on their own. they still came around to play in my garden.

Only Kidding! They've been going to town on my sunflower seed and suet! Much worse than last year!
they are cute though.
Muddy will be here soon with some of her pics. She has lots!

Millions!!! So can't decide! My pic files are full of squirrels & many will recall the Martin house that I had with babies every Spring! I would have to go into my old files to get my favorites. They surely have entertained us for years!

Here's one old one...babies looking out! This was an annual event for many years!!

This little guy hangs around our barns and sometimes I'll see him in our front yard. This pic was taken a few months back. He is an elusive creature and this picture was taken through the window. I love the fox squirrels.

Love the babies looking out. Squirrels are adorable and entertaining....but oh so aggravating. I like to hear them fussing at the cats. If one is up a tree and one of the cats comes near they really put up a racket.

Enjoying all these pictures.

Here's a pic from a few years ago. I actually haven't seen squirrels this year altho there are lots of chipmunks. Some years there are lots of one or the other, guess the predators are responsible. I know either or both eat any sunflower seeds that are around so I've not had volunteer sunflowers for several years. Not sure what other destruction they cause in my garden but something is eating several plants altho it's likely the marmot.

Bana, I do not see many fox squirrels around here. They are bigger and longer. If you spot one you will definitely know it's not a common looking squirrel. We call the grey ones cat squirrels. Not sure if I've ever seen a black one.

ETA...I just saw your post Joyluck. That squirrel looks small and it's face looks different from our Georgia squirrels. Thanks for sharing.

Georgia Peach, I think the one we have here is an American Red Squirrel and is smaller than the Western Gray Squirrel whose habitat is south of here on the coast in a warmer climate. There are many different types of squirrels.

your little cutie, joyluck, reminded me of this picture taken in '87 in Monterey CA. these chipmunks would climb right up into your lap for food.

I am not terribly fond of squirrels anymore. In our last house they chewed up the wood around our garage doors and tried to live in our garage. It cost a lot of money to get it fixed. Their teeth must be made of steel.

The ones in my yard got so tame they came right up to me & quite shocking when working in the garden! They would come & beg 6 inches from my feet. I enjoyed feeding them for a long time but soon I had so many stopping by...LOL Presently I have a few babies but I had to cut off the sunflower seeds to limit the squirrel traffic.
I really miss all of them but they did get into our attic & trapping them was a royal pain. I never hand fed them for fear of them biting me. I still am a big squirrel fan tho. Very sweet little critters but they are just trying to survive, stay warm & eat ~~I guess I understand that. They just can't move in with me no matter how sweet I think they are! :>) I put bread out for the birds awhile back & watched this little guy carry the heel from my bread up into the cottonwood tree!

I don't mind them either I think they are so cute...but like your dog, my older German Shepherd just hates them, he's always chasing them up the trees.

Joyluck,
Is that a chipmunk or a skwirl? I have never seen such a cute, reddish skwirl in my whole life! I only have the standard gray ones here which I am not a fan of. (they are soooo smart no matter how many times I have tried to keep them out of the birdfeeder, they always were right back on it) I never ever see chipmunks. I saw them once in a park and was thrilled, they're really smart and cute!!!
Muddy, do you have birdfeeders too? Did you put those holes in that birdhouse where the baby skwirls were peeking out? TOO CUTE!!!!

This picture is absolutely priceless!!
You must send it to about 10 gardening/nature/wildlife magazines. (Good Housekeeping, Martha Stewart Living, etc.) I love it and would hang up a 11" X 14" framed photo of it somewhere in my house and make postcards and send to friends as well!!!

wow wavie.. thanks. now i wish i'd induced him/her to come further in. part of me wanted to hand feed one and the other part said that probably wasn't a good idea.. for me or the squirrel. i might have gotten a nip in the process and i didn't want a critter to get too trustworthy of people.

Never seen a fox squirrel before and ours here are the common grey ones, with an occasional black.
But this morning I finally got a few shots, blurry though from my bedroom window, of a squirrel who manages to spread his weight and eat from the squirrel proof feeder.
Squirrel proof, my tushie!
They seem to have NO trouble eating from it!

I wish I had a movie camera. Today I watched a little grey squirrel play in the back yard for at least 15 minutes. He would dig a hole, then roll around in it and tumble over and over. He'd jump straight up and then sideways and then roll again. It was a hoot just to watch him. You couldn't help but laugh.

It's a squirrel. Our chipmunks have stripes and are even smaller. The grey squirrels are south of here, guess it's too cold for them this far north! LOL

Florida Farm Girl, that would have been a cute video! I like watching the young squirrels and chipmunks chasing each other. They likely are not playing but trying to mate but, whatever! LOL

Joyluck, this one was playing all by him/herself. Not another squirrel in sight. He was definitely playing. Today another one was playing under/on and in my fatsia bush. Another total hoot.

Sorry, FFG, didn't mean to suggest your little squirrel was not playing, just that the ones I've often seen chasing may have 'ulterior motives'. LOL I'm quite sure that healthy little animals do play even when alone. We had livestock for years and I know that the young lambs and calves can be quite playful. And, of course, cats and dogs often play. Also I've seen small bear cubs looking as if they are having fun running around. Humans don't have a monopoly on enjoying life! *smile*
