We all knew this was subject to happen! These photos taken 4:30 pm today...Monday, Jan 14th...31 degrees, freezing rain and dropping temps. Just hope the power stays on.
Oh, I hope your power stays on, too!! It's pretty but treacherous. Stay safe.
We're still in short sleeves, yet 80 miles away in Mobile, they're down around 50 last I heard. Weird stuff. Even when the front finally passes, we aren't expected to get really cold.
Beautiful but oh soooo dangerous! Hope your power stays on and ya'al keep four wheels on the road & 2 feet on the ground...NO butts on the ground! Love you captions!

Beautiful pictures Vera they remind me of the ice covered trees when I lived Wisconsin. Except the trees there had had large icicles. I hope you don't loose power. I must say that the people in Wisconsin don't let cold weather keep them inside. I remember seeing -50 on the bank thermometer. The ground was still frozen in May and everyone in town laughed at me for sitting on the ground beneath a tree. Dumb out of state girl didn't know any better. Gee and I thought Michigan was cold.
wow... I sure don't miss those ice storms!!.. we used to get them right regular....think I'll knock on wood.....that's a wild temp drop!!!... brrrrr.....

Vera, please be careful. Your ice storm was even mentioned in my newspaper, The Los Angeles Times and they rarely cover the news of this type for the rest of the nation.
My Dad lived in Coffee county. He said that ice on the roads scared him because people there don't know how to drive on ice. So my concern is not only that you will lose power but that you and your loved ones will stay safe on the roads if you have to travel anywhere. Are you in area that might flood? I sure hope not. This message has been edited. Last edited by: still tryin,
Still Trying - how cool is that.....our area mentioned in the Los Angeles paper!! Coffee County is one county up from where I live.....Lincoln County, which joins Moore (home of Jack Daniels) and Moore joins Coffee. We go to Tullahoma often, the county seat of Coffee County.. So you have to be somewhat familiar with our area.....and yes, we are in a flood plain. In fact, flash flood warnings are out for several counties here, even parts of Lincoln County.
The ice turned to rain the next afternoon after I took the pictures and all the ice melted off. We are just mushy wet right now.
Thank all of you for your concern......and comments about the pictures.
I can't imagine what would happen around here if there were ice on the roads! People around here are just not used to it. Well, maybe except for the snowbirds who live here for the winter to get away from it.

VE, I know your area, it's beautiful. My dad lived in Tullahoma. One of my DB's lived in Giles county until he moved to Louisiana.
VE when Tennessee went through the drought was your area blessed with rain when Tullahoma was? My dad said he felt guilty that they had a surfeit of water from the rain when everyone else was suffering. Although they did suffer through the drought too. They said the water levels were so low the fish in the water stunk. This message has been edited. Last edited by: still tryin,

Very pretty pics VE! I love pics of ice altho it's treacherous stuff in many ways. We seldom lose power here but don't get many ice storms either. Ice can pull down a power line so easily.

The only way to drive on ice is very, very slowly. You either learn that or don't survive to tell about it! Fortunately around here the sand/salt trucks are busy all winter so seldom does ice form.
