My deck is full sun most of the day and potting succulents drastically cuts down on the amount of watering for at least one area. Bonus? I love the textures and architectural forms of succulents.

and I love that you posted pictures of them...because I love them too. All 3 of the containers are absolutely gorgeous. did you pot them up yourself? Here there is actually no place to buy pretty ones like you have. In the 3rd picture...is that one of the kalanchoes that gets so big??
VE, the first picture is Flapjacks, baby jade, blue chalk fingers, coppertone sedum, stonecrop Angelina, and getting ready to bloom: red carpet stonecrop. The spikey hawk in the last picture is the only one I wintered in the garage. He was too pretty to let go. I bought the succulents at a family owned greenhouse near Kansas City in March. They were all in 4 inch pots. I did keep them in front of the patio doors in the lower level until it was warm enough to move them to the deck. That same nursery is well known in this area for their geraniums. Patriot Red is my favorite and one per pot is a full display!

Thank you for the names 3D - the Angelina is the only one I recognized because I have that one...it's pretty common and makes a great filler. I think the big seashell looking one is Flapjacks, right? I will look at Home Depot or Lowes...they are about the only places to carry succulents around here...so our choices are limited.
Red Geranium is pretty too!!! Thanks again for the names of the plants.

I love the combos in the pots. I just bought four of those "FlapJacks" or huge Kalanchoe at Walmart. I like what you did with them, the textures are so interesting. I like the metal birdie too!

The pots look great! But I love that "stork"? I collect chicken related stuff! I'm going to have to look at Lowes too. All these pots are looking sooo good...and I just killed one of mine, I forgot to water the volunteer petunias.

Vera, I use Miracle Gro potting mix and add a few handsful of sand for additional drainage. I end up using the same soil for 2 or 3 yrs, troweling in a bit of new mix to top fill. I like to place a few rocks in the pots to keep wash holes from developing and to add even more texture to the groupings.
Really very pretty. Lovely containers. I started collecting a few succs, but still need a bit more variety. what is the name of the one that drapes over the pot?

Me too! Very nice containers. I had to protect my succulents in containers from the marmots by placing a bird cage over them. Apparently they are very tasty!

Thanks for the potting soil advice.......and I did get my minatures at Lowes. They won't look like yours, but I think they are going to look cute in my container. I was disappointed that they didn't have names on them. The pot is a gift from a friend...a southwest design with 4 potting holes.
