I can't believe I had one this late! I've been looking at those last 2 feeders & thinking I really needed to get them down but now I'll leave them for another week or so. It went right to the feeder, didn't look for flowers...and it is a skinny little thing, maybe it is a juvie.

I finally took my hummer feeders down about a week ago and today put one back up after I read this thread.
you are so close to me, I don't want to miss out. it's still warm outside, just windy, maybe there is a chance!!!!!

Glad to hear it Barb. We just never know when we might be that "last stop" before the long journey!

I'm all for helping the little birds as much as I can. I wish they used birdhouses to keep warm!

no hummers but still a blue jay or 2...we're beginning to feed once a week now...our biggest family are the mourning doves..about 8-9...

We usually have blue jays all winter. Haven't seen as many recently but I have flocks of sparrows and finches along with 6 or 7 cardinals at our feeders. Last hummer left weeks ago which is good since it is much too cold for them here, glad you were able to see one!

Wow Karen, that is awesome. I took mine down the end of October after 2 wks of seeing nothing. I do still have a few things blooming should a straggler show up......would hate for the little fellow to go hungry.

We had just had 3 nights in a row in the 30s when this fella showed up. So that was even more surprising.

I know that some years a few will over-winter in the north. Their bodies are able to lower their temperatures so that they can survive cold weather. But the colder it gets the longer it takes them to "wake up" when it's daylight.

We just had our first killing frost of the season with more predicted the rest of the week...anything still blooming in the gardens are now toast, so I hope any stragglers make it to your house.

Karen, that might have been a vagrant from the west. Have you seen it again? Try to get pictures if it comes back. I've seen only one hummer here in the past month. Nothing recently. Need to clean up the feeder.

Nope, haven't seen it again, but I'm not out on the front porch ALL the time, so I could easily miss it if it did come back.
It went to sit in one of our tall pines after eating at the feeder...so maybe it hung around for awhile???

We had a really light spotty frost one of those nights we got into the 30s, but it didn't do much damage here at our place. It was mostly on the grass...even some tender flowers came through just fine.
