... whoever posted the most recent link to the Decorah Eagles live cam site. (Might have been NYLady...?) I'm having the most fun watching the little peeplets' antics. One of them is so bold, it won't stay put under mom/dad's protection. Keeps poking its head out to see what's going on. LOL

Oh, I watched that cam last year and it was fascinating!

Thanks for reminding me about it. I'm going to check it out again.

I've been watching it too Nettie - ever since she posted the link. It's fascinating....haven't checked in about a week...guess I'd better go see what they are up to.

Oh, and let me add my thanks for this as well.

For those who were interested but may have quit watching the Decorah eagles before now ....

The first one to hatch this season - D12 - was found dead Sunday at the base of an electric pole that had an uninsulated thingie which electrocuted that wonderful bird. The power company will fix all the poles in the area to prevent it from happening again.

I'm so sad.

You're not the only one who is sad. Everyone on the chats and social stream are devastated. Especially if they like you and I watched the egg laying, hatch and fledge.

I am upset about it, too. I watched last year's babies as well, in addition to another family of eagles in Norfolk Botanical Gardens, Virginia. Last year, the mother of that family was tragically killed by a jet and they had to remove the babies and take them to a wildlife center. That was very sad last year, and now this? So terrible the ill affects we humans can have on wildlife. Frown

Too true.
I could more easily accept some kind of natural tragedy. Weather, infection, predator, inadequate food supply. But this is something that could have been foreseen by the people in charge, goshdarnit.

My spirits were lifted a little yesterday by the sight of a redtailed hawk cooling off in my birdbath. The temp was 110° at 3 p.m. Two separate times he sat scrunched up in it for almost 15 minutes. Looked like his weight would tip it over, he's so big... LOL
