Bana, my orientals didn't bloom this year. I miss them. Here are a few from mine. The heat has taken everything out of them. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Georgia Peach, ![]()

And this guy has jumped in my pool and is refusing to leave ! Any suggestions ?? ![]()

maybe next year for the orientals, GP. i sure hope so. oh my.. what is that in your pool? i couldn't recognize it.
Love the pretty blooms Bana. I love yellows in my planters. Just re-did the front one and planted a few more "yellows". Georgia, Is that a snapping turtle? YIKES! ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives ![]()

New day lilies (last fall) & hoping they will start to clump! "Those that throw mud, lose ground!" :>)

beautiful additions, muddy. that pineapple lily is so unusual.. looks like a bunch of orchids from hawaii packed tight together. isn't the first of anything so special? enjoy!!!
BR.. i downloaded the pic to try to see it larger and it was labeled 'turtle'.. so you are on the right track. good eye. i still can't make out what it is.. tho i sure wouldn't want to go swimming with it!
Sorry Bana, I shouldn't have messed up your post with all the beautiful blooms with this ugly turtle. We have had these in our ponds but never in our pool. Still working on trying to get him out. He swims really fast and mostly stays in the deep end of the pool. He comes up briefly for air and right back to the bottom.
don't be sorry GP. not at all. i love when people interact.. even with ugly turtles. what if you put some kind of board/ramp.. with a tantalizing turtle treat.. to entice him out? don't know how you'd do it but i would give it my best shot to jerry-rig something. is it a snapping turtle? or is he friendly?
Love the turtle!!! "Those that throw mud, lose ground!" :>)
hey, GP.. muddy likes it. maybe she'll come get it out of the pool for you.
Georgia, Careful of the turtle. They bite. You might want to call the Fresh Water Commission to come and get him out of there. They will relocate him to a better suited environment. http://www.ehow.com/about_6568...snapping-turtle.html ~Like sands through the hourglass ~So are the days of our lives

What's new in my garden? Well, grasshoppers and dead plants, mostly. After a month of 100 plus temps and merely a trace of rain, and no relief in sight, I am ready to give in and quit trying to save anything. I really hate to lose all my mums and asters for fall, but might not have a choice. All of your pictures are beautiful.
i'm sorry you're losing your beloved plants, bet. so much of the country has had no rain and the gardens are suffering for it. could you pot up your most favorites and keep them watered?
Bana, it took teamwork by DH and I but we finally caught him. BR, the FL snapping turtle looks somewhat different from this one but I'm sure it bites. I believe it is a FL softshell. I'm glad he is out of the pool. We have never had anything other than a few frogs jump in ours!! Muddy, are you sure you want him? He is yours! Okay, back to the beautiful flowers ![]()
Not much blooming in the front garden but the elephant ears I've in the back yard are doing really well. I'm tickled silly.
oh my, what beautiful bloomers y'all still have. You saw mine on the sunflowers & n*kkid ladies post.....that's it. I've sure enjoyed looking at all the vibrant colors and different plants. Bana, love that white lily..and I wondered if the pink smelled like a Stargazer. Glad that it does. My stars didn't even get 3 ft tall this year and never bloomed. Georgia, that is one weird looking turtle...box him up and send him to Muddy!!! hehee He looks pretty big too. Yikes. thanks for the shot of color. ve
NY.. love that elephant ear. its gorgeous. GP.. how did you and DH actually catch the turtle? details please. and thanks for showing us what he looks like out of the water. ewwww, glad he didn't fall in my pool. wait.. i don't have a pool.
Love the pretties!!! Never saw a handsome turtle like that one! :>)) "Those that throw mud, lose ground!" :>)
Muddy, your pineapple lily is simply GORGEOUS! I love it and have never seen one before! TFS yours.
Around here, those kind of turtles never leave the water....so I think she was unceremoniously dropped there by some sort of bird....she does bite, but she will be happier to go back to the lake or pond from where she came... Judge not, you don't know their story.
Lots of pretties. | ||||

I was going to say those Florida Softshell turtles sure are weird looking. I had a huge one (about 18" across) in my middle courtyard. My dog saw it and went to take a sniff and it jumped and hissed at him to scare him away. I had to lift him up by the sides (with thick gloves on) put him in my garden cart and rolled him to the front pond. The Incrediball Hydrangeas I just planted last fall put out their first blooms. They are still pretty small but at least they started blooming. Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can't..... You're Right - Henry Ford

That pineapple lily is so unique! This is what over 25" of rain in the last month does to EE's.. 9ft so far!

they spread like crazy...

Bana, catching Mr. Turtle took awhile but we finally tired him out and scooped him up in the pool net. We have a creek or pond within 1/4 of a mile in any direction N,S,E,W, of our property so I think he just made a detour. DH took him to the creek. He is happy and so am I
Oh my gosh, that turtle! Yikes!!! Love that pinapple lily. So different! Grapes, yum!!! What's new for me--I just bought 11 or so of the same type of daylily (grape magic) on clearance at Lowes, my second home. I decided to mass them for a better effect than the various ones I had there before. Hopefully they will perform well. Also I got another new daylily that is just doing great, blooming it's head off and just put it in this year. Need to get a pic to share but I'm so in love with this daylily.

I saw one of those turtles in an exhibit in Florida and believe it is a "chicken-neck " turtle.
![]() |
It's called a Florida SoftShell Turtle, and they sure are ugly! It does have a long neck like a chicken. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_softshell_turtleThis message has been edited. Last edited by: zone9alady,

HEY! I raise chickens and I don't have any that are that ugly!
Zone 9 you have a jungle, but a very nice one!

I guess it's fitting since my friends used to call me Amazon Woman! LOL
this is not in my garden but i saw something quite striking. why didn't i think to take a picture with my camera phone? next time i go to that restaurant, i will. there were containers of DUSTY MILLER surrounding vibrantly colored flowers. the contrast was so beautiful.
zone9, a warning about those "mini" zinnias...if you get volunteers next year...they may be bigger than this year. That's what happened with mine and now my volunteers from them get around 3-4' tall each yr. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

Thanks Karen, any volunteer flowers I get out here are welcome, it's better than all the volunteer weeds I have! LOL! It's funny how some hybrid seeds don't look like the parent plant...it would be like Brad and Angelina having an ugly kid. Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can't.....
