Does anyone know what the difference is between the bellflower and the balloon flower, besides the spelling? I've googled both and they both look the same to me.

They're both common names for Platycodon. The "balloon" name comes from the shape of the balloon-like bud that pops when touched; the "bell" name comes from the shape of the open flower.

Thanks nettiejay! I was just wondering if there was a major difference[water and light requirements]. Thanks again!

I have both. The balloon flower plant is shorter, whereas the bellflower is about once or twice as tall. There is a difference in the blossoms; the balloon flower before it blooms looks like a balloon about to explode; the bellflower looks like a hanging bell. When I take the time to learn to post photos, I'll start posting photos. Hope this helps.

Sometimes the Campanula is called a bellflower.

Thanks everyone! I was mainly concerned about water and lighting requirements.
