This little fellow was trying his hardest to
chisel out sunflower seeds frozen in ice!

We get the American Robins that come down from the north. I used to see hundreds of them, but now I'm only seeing dozens. I wonder why?

No winter 'visitors' now that I have deer-proof fencing. The deer are still around further out but no longer eat my shrubs and sleep in the garden. All the other critters are hibernating, we only occasionally see squirrels or chipmunks in the winter months. Possibly cougars are around but not in my garden. The dog tells me there are mice under the snow altho I don't see them.

With the teeth that guy in your pic has he shouldn't have any trouble getting those seeds! Nice pic!

what a great picture Muddy! Perhaps you should go out and spread some fresh seeds on top of the ice.

Z9, I wonder if your robins aren't already migrating. Time to go find a mate. I've seen lots of courting activity around here. I was thinking it's a bit early for courtship....obviously I was wrong. There were 2 male bluebirds courting one little female just this morning. I love listening to them talk back and forth.

Well it's courting year around down here LOL!
Sandhill Cranes in the front pond have been making their nest. Carolina Wrens are making nests in my hanging pots. Our ever-present Cardinal pair and Red Shouldered Hawks are busy.

It's just the last few years I've noticed the reduction of American Robins in winter. Maybe because of the mild winters we've been having they must settle down further north of us.

Everyone is getting greedy! LOL I have also seen quite a few hawks around the highways lately. I was hoping for you all to post some pics?

I think everyone takes as much as they can carry! :>)

Haven't taken any pics of wildlife this year as they are too far away but have some old ones from when they used to feast on my garden.

Here's a close-up of a fawn.

Here's another fawn who thinks she's 'hiding' behind the bare twigs.

Don't know what kind of birds these are but they are red altho it's not a good pic.

This is the mighty little mouse hunter. Mice run in tunnels under the snow in winter and probably eat some of my plants altho I don't see much damage from them. My dog sure knows they are there and would like to catch one.

I just saw the most beautiful bird this morning on a branch of my tree. It had a blue head with a tan/brown chest area, and some white. Does anyone know what type that is? I wish I could have gotten a picture.

Muddy, yeah, I'm real brave. I took that shot through the window from inside my sewing room!!! I'm sure he'd have left had I so much as opened the back door. Most all the pictures I have of the backyard birds are through the window.

What wonderful picture you all have taken. Love the hawk.......love the fawn with the snow covered nose.

Vera, my first guess would be a bluebird, but I have no idea where Fluffy lives, so can't be sure. There aren't that many blue birds to choose from!

Ok, that bird identifier website was really helpful. I never knew there such a thing!

It' an Eastern Bluebird. So pretty! And today I saw a cardinal on the same tree. I'm so glad I moved my desk to face the window!!

Karen, thanks for the links altho I seem to remember 'my' birds were a darker red. We have had Pine Grosbeaks here but they are brighter red. I had a look at the site but can't find a similar bird.

Z9aLady, I think many of the robins are staying further north with the more mild winters. I've noticed I am seeing a lot more of them during the winter months up here in N GA, both in the trees and even on the ground when it's really mild. I'm guessing it the ones that stay here year round supplemented by migrants that stop and spend the winter here instead of going on further south.

Yep LRP's, we still haven't gotten a hard freeze yet and it's the middle of February! I just miss seeing those hundreds of Robins in the yard. They are so funny to watch the way they "walk" instead of hop around.
