I went to a new to me greenhouse yesterday and bought 4 and 5 inch pots of annuals. I got 30 annuals for $2.00 a peice and some less. They are gorgeous. I am planting like I won;t be around to enjoy next year. I always said I wnat my flowers while I am living. I can't see them when I am laying in the c a s k e t. I got several large zinnia that have huge blooms. Three very tall snapdragons that are bursting with blooms. Oh, some of the coleous are in 6 inch pots. Some I have never seen before. I was so impressed with the quality and price. The greenhouses were overflowing. Lots of plants I had never seen before. I was just gushing with joy as I was buying them. I was even helping others with their shopping, as if they needed any help. They were buying as much as me. I was telling them "go ahead, you know you want it. Just put it in your basket." I am going to plant these plants this weekend and go and buy more next week. So if I am not around next year you will know I have had one of life's greatest pleasures-----walking in a greenhouse and buying plants by the dozens." Truly a life well lived.

Owie, yes, we want pics! Before and after while you're at it.

It sounds like a great nursery. Too bad the road trip would be just too long for me or I would meet you there!

I found out we have a produce auction that sells flowers too, in nearby Iowa. I'm looking to make a road trip there some day.

Items for sale: http://cedarvalleyproduceaucti.../for-sale-items.html

Listen to the auctioner. Those flats were going for $5, $6!!! (At least that's what I thought I heard!) Smile

Oh, Nance, I would be no good. I don't think I have a vehicle large enough for what I would buy there. I would need to buy more land!! That looks like a great place to go. WOWSERS. Yes, I need to take pictures.

I'm right there with you Owie. I've been doing a lot of planting this year, and I agree that it is one of life's greatest pleasures. I had to smile when you said you were encouraging others to buy plants too. DH told me I was addicted yesterday.

I wish I knew others who enjoy plants as much as me, but I have you guys!

ok, it's been a company filled weekend for me and I'm just now reading...so I'm tapping my foot with impatience to see all these plantings!!

Sounds like some totally awesome buys. I wish snapdragons weren't annuals - esp. the tall ones. I love them.

I embarrassed to say I still have bulbs I haven't gotten into the ground and about 12 different kinds of flower seeds that are still in the garage. But with this drought we've been having I have no desire to drag hoses around more than I do already. I have a huge empty planting bed waiting for these things.....I guess I'm waiting for the rainy season...which starts next month. wooohooo!

Oh yes, I want to see pictures too!

I have 6 small, say less than 18 inches tall snapdragons that came back from last year. 5 are in a container and one is in the flower garden. I want to plant the ones in the pot into the garden and then deadhead it so it will bloom again. I have almost all of the plants planted and when DH goes ona 3 day trip this week I will be heading back to the greenhouse. Look out Ethel, here I come.

Oh owie! I'm right there with you! And planting some today too...inbetween our bands of showers from that tropical storm.
I visited our local green house, then went to the next town & visited one there and then, and then I went to the one I posted about down in Tallahassee! Their plants are amazing down there...if anyone is close or planning a trip to Tallahassee area...do yourself a favor & visit the Tallahassee Nursery! You don't have to buy anything (teehee), but just walk & look! The whole place is gorgeous and they even have restrooms!

Today I have divided a lily of the nile (blue) & planted it in 3 places. I planted an azalea I got and 2 hydrangeas that I had grown from starts...replacing my 2 that died when we moved them last year. I still have to go out & plant the white lily of the nile & at least one of the 2 plumbagos I got. Yesterday I planted 2 bottle bushes by the end of our drive...they are about 2 1/2' tall.

I agree....enjoy the flowers while we are alive! No one needs to send flowers when I'm gone...just go out & party and plant a flower in YOUR garden for me!
