Can I move the lilies now or do I have to wait until fall after blooming? "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."

If you move them now, you might loose this year's blooms. It's really hard to tell...it would depend on so many different conditions. I have some I'm going to move this year but I'm waiting until after they bloom. "The soil is the source of life, creativity, culture and real independence." David Ben-Gurion

The problem with moving lilies in the spring is the danger of breaking off the new crisp shoot and then you won't have a flower this year. It won't likely k*ill the bulb, it just won't have the energy to flower if it has to send up another shoot. If you do move them don't let the bulb dry out, replant immediately and water. I'd water with diluted alfalfa tea as it helps to prevent transplant shock. Love, if it were me, I'd wait until the lilies bloom and the foliage starts turning yellow. Then I'd move them. The problem with this statement is the difference in our zones. My O's are in the bud stage right now and I expect full out blooms within the next week or so. By the middle of June the spikes will be turning yellow. I guess what I'm trying to say, wait until the bloom stalk starts turning yellow before moving, regardless of the month or season, unless you want to sacrifice blooms as the others have stated. ve

Thanks all. I figured that was what I should do. It was on my list to do last fall but DGD being born took precedence They are located at the back of my yard which I can't see so well. They have no buds yet and I thought that would be the same as purchasing them at that stage. Will wait for fall I guess. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
