You've got to love the Irish!

Is anyone familiar with this plant? It is growing all over my yard, and I'm not sure if I should dig it up and move it to my perennial gardens before I mow the grass or not!

I'd transplant 'em. I found some old ones in my yard last year & I transplanted them into the garden. They really look nice this year. Nice & tall instead of mowed down. Big Grin LOL

My Goodness Gracious - you have sweet william growing in your yard. Consider yourself very lucky.......wish I had that kind of luck with them. Understand the Irish connection....it's just too beautiful a plant to be called Stinking Billy Wink By all means transplant them. Envious here.

Mine are done blooming already. They are dropping their seeds for next year's plants.

Transplant them! They are one of the first blooms around here, so are nice & cheerful! And a vase full of them & daffs in really pretty on the dining room table or side board.

I just planted my first 2 Sweet Williams a few weeks ago. No idea what they will look like, but I read they are good ground cover for shade and make great companion plants for hostas, so I was sold!!

Edited to add: You know what? I think I'm thinking Sweet Woodruff!! Ooopsey!!! Red Face

Most seed packets say full sun I think~ Hmm very surprised to consider planting in the shade! Will have to try that if I get any this year...don't see them yet but threw seeds down. Anyone with pinks (seeds) to share ~ I have an abundance of datura seeds. PM me

Yes, Sweet William is Dianthus barbatus. Dianthus is the genus and barbatus is the species.

ETA For clarification, there are over 300 species of Dianthus.
