Now class, we are going to talk about BIRDS. They are 3 types of birds: Larks, Owls & Hummingbirds (just found out about the Hummingbirds!!!)
I find each species very fascinating in their own right! I am a lark. My DH & DD are Extreme Owls, but my DD is a Hummingbird too.
Hummingbirds are people who are both - early birds and night owls, interchangably.
The reason I ask is because last night as usual, I checked and my DH still wasn't in bed. It was nearly 3:30 am. My DD also was on the computer (both of them go on the 'puter till all hrs. of the night). This was on a day when they both went to work, and got up 'early', not the weekend. I've been in bed since about 11 PM (nothing on TV) I was up at 6 AM this morning..... It will be nice & quiet for hrs. now!
If you offered me $250,000, I probably COULD NOT stay up (wide awake & bushy tailed) till 3 AM without a nap first!!!
So, what kind of bird are you?! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Wavee,
I guess I would be a lark. I usually cannot stay up later than 10 o'clock. Have been known to go to bed at 8p.m. I do suffer from insomnia at times and that would be the exception. I generally am up early. I do on occasion nap in the afternoon for 10-15 minutes. If I sit down to read I get very sleepy.
I'm a humming bird! Growing up I had to be a lark since I lived on a dairy farm & the cows had to be milked before school...up at 4am..winter or summer!
Then as a young adult...I PARTIED!...live in Ca. during the mid 60's...hippy years...not me, just that time & place! I hit the dance bars, went to breakfast at 2am and many times watched the sun come up before I went to bed.
Then as a working mother with a veggie garden you had to do what you had to do to get everything done! Can/freeze veggies when they were ripe, attend school functions, work 40 hrs. a week, clean, laundry, etc. So not a lot of sleep during those years.
Now...it depends. Some weeks I'm a lark & some weeks I'm an owl...but I seldom take naps. Most of the time I'm in bed around 11pm & up by 7am...but I'm retired.

wavie.. you are so funny!
i am definitely a Lark. love the early morning when the world is just waking up. to me, the rest of the day is just not as magical as that time of day.
ga.karen ~ isn't retirement wonderful? i never get tired of it nor do i ever take it for granted.
Owl~~~always! When no one is shutting the lights off on me I am up half the night...Tv or reading! This message has been edited. Last edited by: muddyshoes,

I am now and have always been a night owl. Stay up late and sleep late. Absolutely detest getting up early and if I do, I must have a nap later in the day.
Karen, I've had a few of those breakfast at 2 a.m. and watch the sun come up before going to bed occasions myself!!
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.
I've always been a lark...even lived the life that gaKaren described, except for the dairy farm...but it was a farm...which carried me right on through to retirement myself. There is no way I could stay up past 11:00 pm unless it was a family emergency. Once I get in my chair in the evenings, I usually sleep through most of the shows I had planned to watch. Sometimes I manage to stay awake to see the local news.
Up most mornings by 6:30, no later than 7:30, and go, go, go. Hubby has always been an owl...preferred second shift when working. So the early mornings have always been my special quiet time.
The energizer bunny should figure in your equasion somewhere - because most of us larks are like the energizer bunny. (except that when our battery goes dead, we are truly gone!)
I'm with Karen. 60s hippy and bar fly. I'm no longer an owl! I am now a lark and love the early morning hours! The best part of my day is coffee with DH in the gazebo!
My 1900s farmhouse:
I'm a lark as Vera can testify. I fell asleep on her couch and it wasn't even 11:00. But in my own defense, vacations are go, go, go, too. zzzzz
LOL Jan! True statement, and I wasn't far behind you.
Lark here I go to bed 8:30-9 and get up 5-5:30.
I love the early morning. Up have coffee and go outside to see what plant is blooming and play ball with the dog. DH is a lark to but bed 30min. later and gets up about 6:30 so I have a little quiet time.

thanks for the info. It really helps.

I really like the early morning hours but I find myself sleeping later than I did when I was young. There's something special about the garden in the early morning before the heat of the day.
i so agree.. i love the garden before the world fully wakes up. its a magical time.

i can't believe how many topics have appeared to push this thread to page 2.
It's because of "Mr. Landscaping" up there! He's pulling up every old thread to advertise on.
really!! well, duh. i should have caught on to why BIRDS got pushed to page 2. he forgot to advertise on that one!
evidently he has been reported and either the MODS are way more tolerant than they used to be.. or they are asleep on the job.. or the board has had to downsize due to the economy.. or maybe they have outsourced the moderating job.
i won't visit his site.. am not even curious. i'm assuming the NM in his url means New Mexico. now how in the heck is visiting a site in that neck of the woods going to help people on either coast.. in the south.. north or midwest?
What the, the boards are a mess. My response when I used the quotes button showed up in the middle of the quote.
