These happy little darts of color are flitting everywhere in my garden right now. They are smaller than their Great Spangled cousins but every bit as bright.
Vera, So glad you posted those. Haven't seen a whole heck of a lot of butterflies this year. And right now we're going thru a rainy period so they are all hiding or have gone down south since it's a little chilly up here.

Me too! I must have had near 100 butterflies go thru the yard today. They all seemed on a mission generally headed in a SE direction. Only one was a Monarch for sure.

Thanks Girls - yes, the flutterbys are everywhere right now. Must be the last Hurrah! I chased some sulphurs around, they are simply too fast for me, so no picture.
I was just doing a yarden walk, sans camera...big mistake. Spotted a gorgeous buckeye butterfly. They are not common in my yard, although I do get a few. Ran to get the camera...when I got back outside, the buckeye was gone. The frits and sulphurs were everywhere.
I have the usual butterflies flitting around and I saw a really neat one the other day, let me see if I can google what it looked like.
What's different right now in my yard are the dragonflies. Every day there are at least 25-30 all circling in a group about 6ft off the ground in one area of the yard. They are all copper colored. It's really cool to watch them.

I have a bunch of dragon flies too. But they aren't circling anything. Do you think you might have some swarming ants or termites? The dragon flies went nuts last spring when the termites around here swarmed. I've been seeing LOTS of winged fire ants when I treat/kill mounds the last week or so.

Was out at the beach yesterday birdwatching and the butterflies were everywhere!! In fact, the local butterfly house is having their Monarch Festival today. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Florida Farm Girl,
FFG - what a lovely picture - thank you so much for sharing.
z9 - sometimes I'm lucky enough to get an American Lady...I think what you get depends on your host plants, which is why I don't get them often. She's a beauty. Thank you for sharing her.
I wish I had more dragonflies. You girls are lucky to have them. They are so cool. Usually when I get them, they are the dull brownish black ones. The blue ones are my favorites...they are rare here.
Someone go out and capture some pictures of your dragonflies and start a new post...pretty please.
